Freedom Benchrest members support???

I was not going to chime in on all of this but changed my mind. I have been competing in 1000yd BR for 38 years. The only major rule change I have witnessed is weight of a light gun. Went from 17.5 to 17lb. Not a game changer. Front rests have always been mechanical with LG on a sand bag and heavy can use a mechanical also. To be honest, LG’s hang right in there with the HG’s. I will compete in any competition, why, because it’s all about the experience and not medals and prizes. If you’re in this for recognition and fame you might want to sit down and reconsider your path. I respect all categories of rules by the many different associations. Maybe some day everything will be standardized.

Standardization in Equipment and Procedures is one reason we have a Sanctioning Body.

Rules laid forth by the Sanctioning Body are not “suggestions”.

Read paragraph 1-3 in the NBRSA mandate. I am pretty sure the IBS is similar.

I read the Freedom Benchrest rules for Short Range Group and Score and they are just about identical to those of the NBRSA.

I have traveled for the food and fellowship. I highly recommend the event that Tom Jacobs’s hosts with his wife every June . You will not be disappointed. Rules are straightforward and results are posted after each relay. No one comes home disappointed.
That match is my bucket list

Just remember where this all started. We seem to enjoy every match and welcome anyone who wants to enjoy fellowship and shooting. Unfortunately the younger shooters solely focus on trophies and prizes and recognition. Williamsport has had some bumps in the road, but continues to be one of the top notch 1000yd ranges in the country. Rules are posted and don’t change. A 1” group 10 shot group will stand upon all disciplines.

As I said before, most guys will just say, I want to just shoot. I understand that totally. But what keeps this thing going is a real competition with real rules. I'm just hoping to see this sport last. What we like to talk about innovation, and that is my favorite part of the sport. But when it's not serious, you're not going to get those guys to spend the money and the time to innovate. I'm going to be done in this thread. But for all you guys that i've talked to over the years that don't want to get involved, I guess speak up.Or hold your peace

Alex, I highly respect you and your gunsmith work. I would recommend you to anyone, you are a true inspiration and innovator to the sport. Unfortunately this is a very expensive sport for young people. $8,000 for a competitive rifle for a young man trying to get buy is ridiculous. Us old farts can afford but we will be gone in the not to future. Why can’t we create a discipline where young competitors can compete and transcend to BR. I have a Christensen
Armes ridge line in 6.5 that shoots 2.5” @ 600 factory gun. It is all about having fun. I know that it would never be competitive but in the Tactical game it is legal.

I really hope to meet you there in the future. It’s all about shooting, bull shit and food around a good camp fire. Watching satellites pass over at night.
Absolutely !! Our Sharp Shooter match in Ga at the Red White and Blue last weekend was a prime example! We fired up the fire barrel and the Yankee crowd took it over
What a great time we had! THAT’s what is it’s all about!!!

Well after reading this whole string those who know me know that I’ve been in FBR from the beginning I haven’t paid any dues and have shot at several different ranges and they have all been awesome I love long range br and fbr makes it easy Alex I don’t think you are being fair to us with some of your comments on FB but that’s just me sorry but I think Jim B made it pretty clear were we are go Freedom and also the Sharp Shooters Show Down was great

What does Freedom Benchrest provide for members???

Was ready to defend Freedom Benchrest, until I read the most recent rifle rules. Will get back to that.

Sacramento Benchrest Shooters (SBS) used to run NBRSA matches. A few years ago, I fired my one 'free' match in both LR and SR. I used a bipod on the rifle, unknowingly violating that stupid rule. The NBRSA president at the time told me, in person, that to compete in another match I needed to become a paid member of NBRSA. No, thanks.

The last couple of years, SBS has been running Freedom Benchrest matches It has been great shooting with them, up through last year, with my F-Class rifles. Apparently, the Freedom rules were recently changed to 17# rifles, which will now eliminate 20-30% of the local competitors. I shoot primarily F-Class and have recruited quite a few of our other F-Class regulars to come out and shoot the benchrest matches, with our non muzzle-braked, 22# rifles. No, we are NOT going to convert our rifles to meet the 17# limit. Instead, we will simply NOT shoot the benchrest matches, where we are no longer welcome.

As has been stated above, F-Class has far more shooters than Benchrest. F-Class shooters have basically the same equipment as benchrest shooters, except for the rifle weight. Testing is done by shooting groups, just like benchrest. Realistically, F-Class is an EASY discipline to poach shooters from, without having to alter any equipment or leave their primary discipline.

If I wrote the rifle weight rule for Freedom, it would look something like this: Guns shooting in the Light Gun Class must weigh 17 lbs. or less, inclusive of all equipment, scopes, brakes and accessories at the time of shooting match record targets. All Rifles must be fired in a single shot manner. An NRA, F-Class compliant gun may be used in Light Gun Classes. (No muzzle brakes or suppressors on any F-Class compliant rifles)

The Sacramento SR benchrest group actively encourages the F-Class shooters to bring their 22# 'cannons' out to compete, head-to-head. The 'legal' 6PPC and 30BR rifles still always win the matches. Basically, everyone wins by having more shooters out there on the range.

You have the option to shoot your 22lb rifle in the Heavy Gun class.

They shoot heavy AND light gun every match. In it to win it all, not half-assed. The Sacramento group is great, but rules are rules. If we are not welcome under the Freedom rules, much like we were not welcome beyond the NBRSA one 'free' match rule, then so be it. They will just have to persevere, without our charming personalities. ;)

I have been a member and shooting in 1000 Yd Matches for two years. along with friends. I have yet to see any support in tallying or posting any individual early results, It seems like only two clubs show any updates and no life time totals, which have not been updated in two years. Isn't that one of the main reason for belonging to an organization? What dose Freedom Benchrest provide for members???
Have you checked that your match director and/or statistician has been submitting them?

Taddling on myself a little here, but @JBauer very nicely asked me about my clubs scoresheets last year at the Rendezvous. Miscommunication between me and the MD resulted in the sheets not making it to the freedom committee.

Correct me if I’m wrong here. So you are saying you should be able to shoot a 22lb f class compliant rifle (without the brake or suppressor) in light gun class? While everyone else shoots a 17lb rifle?
