flattened brass...???

Shooting a new BR repeater with a 700 action:
Brass is coming out flattened on about 1/4 of the end of the neck...after being shot..
Shortened the brass to just below minimum... 1.045.... 050 being normal trimmed length
and still have most being flattened just the same...

Wondering if someone could tell me why perhaps..??

Yes it is caused by the ejector. You can cut the spring and it will help, just cut a small amount of the spring until you like the looks of the brass.

Same happens on my rifle but the "flat" goes away when I size the neck. ;) With the ejector spring set just strong enough to eject a loaded round it flattens the neck of a fired case when it "snaps" against the locking lug area just before it leaves the ejection port.

Since I anneal frequently I don't worry about it and have no long term issues. Primer pockets loosen up before necks split.
