Firing pin rant

So just a quick rant here. It is no secret that I bush a lot of Savage Bolts. And as such I work on and see hundreds of these. Now typically 97% of the firing pins that I encounter in Savages are crooked. That means they rub and cause a lot of issues etc etc yada yada. But will you look at this one! I declare Monica Lewinsky told me Bill Clinton's you know what is straiter then this is. I ordered three more to keep on hand and replace this one. Of those three only one was usable. WOW

Not knowing anything. Is it possible to chuck one up in a lathe and straighten it ? more work than its worth?

This is a new development, isn't it? I bought 6 the last time (2 years ago)I stocked up to cure a fit issue, and none of them were bent. This is very disturbing!

Any feedback from Savage on this issue?

Another question comes to mind, what was the extreme spread on diameters near the tip?

As far as the peter factor goes, I'm at that point in life where that looks pretty dang good! Hey, wait.... which way is up?

A flaccid device(brass hammer)tapped onto the erect(hardened f/pin) while rolling on a piece of hardwood will straighten Slick Willie faster than Monika Lewinsky's skills & without Perjury statements or evidence left behind.

Savage does not harden them. They cut pretty easy.

Whether or not the firing pin actually is bent is gonna depend on what your definition of "is" is!!!!! If I had a firing pin that straight....I go show all my neighbors!!!
Seriously though, it's hard to believe just how pathetic the American gun industry has become.....I have pretty much resolved that if you want a gun that's right you are going to have to build a custom. In some cases it's actually cheaper in the long run. Time I have wasted on factory junk trying unsuccessfully to get it to shoot is time out of my life I cannot get back.

Theres a reason that for many years you could pick up a brand new Savage rifle for around $300. That's all they are worth! They haven't really changed anything. They added a trigger that's so unsafe it needs a safety sear integrated into the shoe and maybe put a little bit nicer stock on some of the models. That doesnt really improve the quality, but with their prices these days they sure seem to think so

In my opinion they have always been cheap rifles and unless they change something in the design and quality of manufacturing, they always will be cheap. I know, I've owned a few over the years. I'll even admit I fully customized a couple Live and learn I guess

I sure am , not just the gun industry either... Everything is a pita anymore , made in China crap , buy American same problems , everything is made as cheap and as fast as possible anymore.... I am so tired of buying new stuff and either having to fix it or fix it right after it breaks because if you send it back it takes weeks before you see it again , if I didn't need it I wouldn't have bought it...

I just bought a Dillon the powder thrower linkage rod wasn't bent right , when I called they told me yes we have seen that just bend the 90 correct on it if you mess it up call back and we will send you another... I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BEND ANYTHING for what these made in America products cost and that's the kind of crap I am tired of.... It's everything , cars , guns , equipment , service performed , household crap and even when you send something back you're damn lucky if it actually gets fixed right and you don't have to send it back three times...

My family owned a engine machine shop for 40 years and we didn't let crap out the door period.... Because of this for 35 of those years we didn't have a sign , weren't in the phone book and didn't advertise , yet we were covered up in business year round... Yes I have been sick of it for the last couple of decades....

Edit... I will give it up to inline fab , the light kit I ordered from them for the Dillon worked perfectly out of the box and they were great to talk with....

I recently purchased a Mighty Armory de-capping die. Not that I needed one already have a Lee. But, it was purty looking so I had to have one. Got it, went to assemble it and the de-capping rod wouldn't fit right. Called the company and it was suggested that I file down a particular area and it would probably be ok. I did and it was. Brand new, and needed fixing before I could use it. On the other hand, it is a primo de-capping die.
