That's the purpose of this thread. Without a procedure to find the correct seating depth. How many barrels have great potential but the, in this case .005 or .008 off or some other seating depth pulled from thin air is all that is used. Then a guy just constantly messing with powder weight and the full potential of the barrel is never realizeddedogs said:Wow! I would never pull that barrel out unless there was money on the table!![]()

Yeah, it's LT32 the top of the pic got cut off where I've got it written.martin22250 said:Tim are you using lt 32?

Sorry about that.

I'm gonna screw it off and save for the Shamrock. Further demonstrates the importance of seating depth

Tim,
Great thread I'm glad that you took it on! The only improvement I can see is when you post pictures of those tiny groups you've been shooting write the "BARTS" on the target much Bigger! :![]()

I ran out of time and target today. With this barrel I'll probably do as Dusty suggests keep coming on off the lands hoping for something a little better than .015 off.Dos XX said:Tim Singleton said:Seating depth test with new Hawk Hill Barrel
So -.015 at 28 and 28.5. Would you load 28 or 28.5 or would you try something in between, say 28.2 or 28.3?
It was settling down in the bags and feeling better at .015 off so hopefully it wil knot up a little further out.Dusty Stevens said:Keep goin. You may find my magic seating depth at .026 or so. May need a powder bump tho
That is how I see it. Others may have different opinions or experience I'm sure.kolar55 said:Excellent thread and some pretty impressive groups. I have been digging into the concept and so far what you have shown is what I have expected but wasn't quite sure. My thoughts were that once found the seating depth is the constant ant the powder charge would be the adjuster to stay in tune until the throat wears. At that point do you just move the seating depth the amount the throat moved?

Tim Singleton said:Completely out of tune on the left. Very wind sensitive
Slight seating depth and load change in tune on right. Same bullet and half vertical
Same match. Virtually same conditions
