Hey new to the forum and am already enjoying the clubhouse. I've been a competitive trap shooter for about 40 years now. Jumped into PRS a little two years ago, finding I'm too old and fat for that game. Recently been introduced to rimfire bench rest to the point I want to have a custom gun built. The problem is two gold. Jumped in at the height of the interest in the sport and find the pieces for a build are nearly impossible. In the research, reading, watching YouTube I have decided on a 2500X action. When I have enough posts to PM I would like to get a maple stick made that I've seen here. Told that shilen and muller are the barrels to get. Problem two, they are made from unobtainium. Are there sources for these barrels that might actually have stock? When do I start with gathering materials?

Thanks for the link. I reached out to them, spoke with Andrew. He took me by the hand and walked me through the process. Liked a lot of what I had decided on parts, changed my mind on others. Very good resource!

As a new guy, frankly, you do not want to build a new gun, enough things to go wrong vs right.
You’d be well ahead buying a good established rifle, hardly a couple weeks go by without one for sale. Watching Youtube is more of a liability than asset.

Respectfully disagree. I have over 50 years of custom guns. This is just a detour. In my experience quality products reduce the learning curve expentually. I have taken new trap shooters, fit them to a high quality gun and experienced their success. Buy once cry once. There are reasons "good guns" are for sale

On a side note. I spoke with a customer service rep at Shilen today. Was told there is a three year waiting list on barrels. Ouch!

Pal, in this regard you’re clueless.
50 years of custom guns and likely not a single one a competitive RFBR rifle,
“ reasons” good guns for sale. This right there tells me everything you don’t know.
There are national level shooters that got there behind nothing but good used guns.

Spend your money, I'll spend mine. I prefer to shoot high quality guns configured to my liking. Will I make errors in the process, of course. That's part of the process.

Thanks to all Y'all that supplied constructive advice. I truly appreciate it. Whidden is down one Muller barrel. They will be assembling my new rifle. Really anxious to see it done. Just in case Andrew shows up here in the forum. I want to give him a huge shout out. He was very patient answering all my "newby" questions and offering advice.
