Finding the lands...Tool!

I like it. That's similar to the method I use with a barrel stub. Seems like you might be able to come up with something that would work without having to take the barrel off.
can you use the raceway as a guide and a long reach indicator - could have a screw on tip for coned bolts (several deg) or flat face???

With enough money and energy you can do anything. It might be simpler to use a cheapo indicator and some sort of spacer inside a tube that fits in the action. I'm sure someone who's good at that sort of thing could come up with something that would work.

Sweet. I was on a similar thought path with the race way. Does it account for flat and coned face?? Wondered if there was enough face to use the same technique

You'll have to be more specific, please. I do have one now specifically intended for measuring cone and counterbore depth, as well as bump and seating depth but I don't see a GOOD bay to incorporate that into this design, where the bbl does not need to be removed and still be accurate enough across a wide array of actions.

So your current will do Bat, Kelbly, Nesika, Stiller, Hall, Borden, etc. for the coned actions. In addition it will also Remington style counterbores??? That would be fantastic!!!! I would be in on that, even if it would only do the various cone angles and required a separate tool for the counterbores.

The one that can account for counterbore or cone requires the bbl be off.

This is a prototype that I made and have been using to do this without removing the barrel.
I don't have any yet nor a set price. I'll figure out how to best produce them and then set a price and update this thread. Probably be in a few weeks.

The bushing in the middle slides and the one at the bottom is fixed. The two bushings give a nice fit in the bolt raceway. It has a smaller tube inside that serves as a transfer bar between the case head and the indicator. So far, works like a champ.

Someone kinda challenged me to make one that doesn't require the bbl to be off and this is what I came up with. Not taking orders yet but stay tuned.

This could be a really nice tool to put in your repertoire.

What about using the bore guide to set the mic on with your long thingy to go through the bore guide to the case? (with the barrel still on) JAT
