Federal Terminal Ascent Tested on a Deer

Went hunting yesterday and decided to take my 30-06 loaded with Federals Terminal Ascent 175gr. Saw a nice size buck (for SC) that was a cull deer with a messed up rack, decided to take his genetics out of the pool. It was a quartering shot in through the left shoulder and out through the right side, BANG FLOP at 220 Yards.

That bullet is something else, Federal makes some nice bullets for sure.

I have a report from a friend with the same bullet loaded to 2950’s in a 300 WSM does the same on caribou…bang flop on two a few weeks ago.

I believe this may be the ultimate bullet for ME. Love it.

Tell your friend for the 6.5PRC hunting applications the Norma Bondstrike in 6.5 is awesome.

My Favorite hunting bullets in order:
1. Federal Terminal Ascent
2. Norma Bondstrike
3. Federal Accubond
4. Federal Fusion
5. Hornady SST -- Not "really" bonded but has Interlock ring and stays together usually.

I have killed deer with them all. I hunt 300 yards or less and like bonded bullets, I know the long range boys need cup and core for slower FPS terminal performance like the ELD-X, but they do not do the job at my hunting range like the bonded bullets do!

My requirements are simple, I want bone crushing terminal performance, at least 2x expansion, 80%+ weight retention, pass through with GOOD blood trail. That is my like anyway....

The Norma Oryx is a bonded bullet that is a real killer too. I’ve used the Lapua Mega with excellent results for closer shots also

I loaded up some 6.5 143gr Bondstrike in my 26 NOSLER and shot a deer at a little over 300yards. It was a bang flop and the exit hole looked like a BAZOOKA hit the deer. It was impressive! Picture below --
