Favorite wildcat?

I hate this thread.....Now I am more undecided on my next build than I ever have been.......might have to come down to decision via dartboard :-\

I love my 6mm/284 for the pure, ridiculous velocity. I am seriously looking at a semi-wildcat .338/06 for an elk gun

The 338-06 will work for closer ranges out to 300 yards, but I wouldn't trust it on a shot past that range just in case you miss your mark a little bit. I'd go a little bigger if you plan on shooting further. the 338-300WSM is a cool round that is compact and will work in a light short action rifle fit for long hikes.

I'm building a 338-375 Ruger, but that's pretty big and taming the recoil without a brake will be a tough task. But I'm building it anyhow because I really don't want elk to run when I hit them ;)

The 223 AI is a sweet little round. After going a couple years without one, I got my new one up and running this am.

After setting a hundred yard zero, I dialed in 9.5 moa and started in on my 530 yd plates. I put 5 rounds on the 12" by 12" to confirm dope and then turned to the 6" x 6", topped off the mag and proceeded to put 10 rounds in what looked to be around a 3" group. That's about as good as I can shoot off of a Harris in 10 degree weather.

I can do the same with my 6.5 creed, 22-243, and 300 WIN, but the 223 AI only needs 26 grains of Varget and a relatively inexpensive 75 grain amax to accomplish the task. If a guy doesn't need a lot of energy the 223 AI is a solid choice.

Rifle is a 700 sa.
Manners T5
PTG bottom metal with Acc. Int. mags
Shilen Select Match Rem Varmint Countour - 8 twist
6 - 24 Vortex Viper PST SFP MOA

If I was a hardcore paper shooter, I'd be all about the 6 Dasher.

For volume shooting, anything based on milsurp type cheap brass that does not require a bunch of time- 20 Prac, 6x45 etc.

mine has to be either 20x47 Lapua (6.5x47 Lapua necked down to 20 cal) shoots like a laser and is very accurate out to 1000 yards and is cheap to run. That or the 338 Edge +P fantastic accuracy to waaaay out past 2500 yards, down side can be pricey to run.

Favorite wildcat... I think my favorite is 22-.100 Short PPC. Got three barrels for that and they all fun. Favorite big game wildcat is 6.5 STW. super confident with this rifle. Favotite varmint wildcat is/was 20 PPC, I say was because I accidently blew the gun up last week waiting to see what can be done to rectify it. In April I bought a new Cooper bM38 in 22 K-Hornet and it has been baffling to say the least.

Fun 6br 243ai 22-250ai 6mmAR

.223 ackley. equals the 22-250 for velocity with much less powder and more accurate. over 700 rounds and bore is pristine. a 22br 12 twist 64 gr bullet is more accurate with a little less speed.

I like several. These are all 30 degree improved cases.

-6mm-06
-6.5-280 RCBS
-280 RCBS
-308 norma improved beltless.

The 6-06 is my main hunting rifle and the 280 RCBS is my current F-class rifle.
