Favorite wildcat?

22 K Hornet, just because it's been a fun cartridge that's not as finicky as it's parent cartridge is in some rifles.

30-338, because no one else on the block shoots one.

I have everything gathered/needed now for my first wildcat build a 25-284 But due to other gun related interest lately I haven't called anyone yet about getting the metal work done.

My favorites are the two that I designed for my Ruger No.1 and No.3 varmint rifles, the .204 Wasp and .219DW PDK. I shot a .219 Donaldson Wasp No.3 for several years and that lead to me designing these two 30-30 based wildcats. Another that I really like is my 6.5 Bullberry Imp. match 15" TC barrel for IHMSA UAS & UAS Half Size.

I like my 20 vartarg a lot. Building a 338-375 Ruger, but not done so I haven't tried it yet. Sure it will be a shooter though and devastating on big game. Also just got the reamer for my next build, it will be a 243 LBC Turbo.

I also burned out the barrel on my 6.5 rem mag and have a new barrel, but I'm still debating whether or not to keep that chambering or chamber it for the 6.5 SAUM wildcat? Any thoughts on the 6.5 SAUM?

I enjoyed my .22x6mmXC, ran it like a modern day .220 Swift, but it was hard on the throat area. Per the overbore calculation, the case volume to bore area ratio is 1262.1. I’m considering having it re-chambered and keeping the reloads on the mild side.

Nice thread.

6mm Swiss Match because its not a everyone has one 6XC. 280AI turned out to be a wonderful Mule Deer rifle. 6mm FAT Rat (6mm Grendel) for shooting AR based rifles in NRA XTC matches. 6SLR because its easy but effective.
Currently working on a crazy one. 45ACP necked down to 22 cal. Still a ways away on this one as only a couple of cases have been made and the reamer hasnt. It will go on a XP100 turned into a rifle. Plus I just found out there is small primer 45ACP brass out there.... Perfect.

Picture added for Jon. : )
(I did not take the picture or form these two cases. It was done for me as to see what I was getting into.)

The 6PPC....it's repeatable accuracy has allowed me to TRUST THE GUN in order to more easily learn condition reading/ tuning/bench set-up/ shooting form. It has provided me with over a decade of enjoyable competition with a great bunch of people.....just wish I would have started when I first got the itch in the 70's.

Another vote for the 20VT & second is 223AI with 11 or faster twist for the 53 V-Maxes. The 20VT is the most fun & versatile cartridge I have ever worked with.

6.5-06, I like it better than the 25-06 and the 270 win. I have built two of them. My latest is a small 22 cal, it is a 222 case shortened up. The body is shorter than the 221 Fireball and has the long neck of the 222 Rem. The case capacity is about the same as the 218 Bee but fits the 223 and 222 Rem bolt face. I thought about going shorter but you loose too many powders as an option. I have cases made up, a barrel, dies, and a reamer, just need some time in the shop.

Where do you start, there are so many good ones! For varmints, the 19 Calhoon makes a good "around the yard rifle" and the 20 VT and 22-250 AI sure work well for open spaces. As for big game hunting rifles I'd have to say the 280 AI, although it has been legitimized now.
