NOTE: I have no doubt this is a good load for Jarhead. Some rifles can handle this much RL15. However, this load will be WAY hot for some other guns. Much depends on the freebore of your chamber and your bore dimensions. With RL15 and 105s we recommend you start at 29.5 grains and work up. A practical max load in many 6BR rifles will be 30.5-30.7 grains.

This is great advice to loaders. What works in one barrel may not work in another and thus the need to start lower and work it up. Freebore and bore diameters vary and are available in different diameters from some manufacturers. Besides, the reloading process to work up the best load for my rifles is the other half of the sport for me. I have identically produced Barnard actions (model P) and 30 inch Bartleins 1-8" but they shoot a little differently so I load for them independently and keep the brass separate. for example...

Just bought my third 6BR, this one built in 2012 by Fred Moreo at Sharpshooter Supply. 28" Brux barrel in 8 twist, Savage target action, timed and trued, target accutrigger reworked for a pull that is too light for my gage to measure, SSS benchrest stock bedded.

I've always shot 105 to 107 gr bullets out of my other 6BR's, one Shilen, one X-Caliber, but since shooting my first club match for score, I am wanting to try loading for short range (100 yds) as this club puts on the same match every month.

I've got 80 and 88 grain FB Bergers coming for load testing and am thinking a slower node may be more accurate for close range.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

Mr Big is right on! I shoot 80 Dom or 80 fb Ber either one with 31.5 N135 with 12tw...shoots fantastic at 3180. I have little groups with 68's and N133 or LT32 at 3300 node. With 8tw and longer barrel I back down a few tenths on powder to 3180-3190 and shoots 80 Dominators really well.

I know those who shoot the high node and do well! I've always been a middle of the road guy! The velocity stated above works well for me. I know those shooting 68's at 3500, but I dont do it! On 80's your barrel and powder choice will probably like 3180 range. Many are having success with 8208.

N135 or AR-Comp with 80gr bullets in a 6BR is killer. . far more consistent for me here in SE Florida than 8208 XBR. i gave up on that powder.... with the 68 or 70 gr class of bullets, N135 rocks. if you can only buy one type of powder for the 68 to 80 gr bullets in a straight 6BR, make it N135 with AR-Comp a close second. i say second for the AR-Comp, only because i have had better overall luck with N135 with 68 grain-ers and the underrated 70gr SMK. with 80's however, i prefer AR-Comp

Hi i use the 55gr BlitzKings with 32gr Benchmark in a Rem 700 that was rechambered 243 VLS heavy barrel and cut to 22". With an ejector fitted over 32gr damages the head of the cases. I also use 33gr H4895 or 34gr Varget they all shoot under 3/8" at 100 yards and are all around 3400fps.

70TNT with 32.9gr Varget at 2.245" COAL

This yields 3205fps and some spectacular results on prairie dogs. Very mild round and shoots very well out of my 24" 1-8t CBI

Tried a lower node with little success, and decided to load hotter. Results were very good using the 88 gr Bergers. This target replicates the size of the 10 ring and X dot used in regulation targets for 100 yds. I'm no expert but 32 gns seems the winner here on a day with no flags, light winds, mild temps and some mirage.

Interesting thread going on as I am trying to decide on either a 6BR or 30BR - comes down to barrel life for me. Which one has the best/prolonged life and at what FPS if possible.

Burning the same amount of powder the larger bore will have a longer barrel life. For short-range benchrest a 6PPC has a competitive life of 700-1500 rounds. A 6BR would be similar (though not really competitive with the 6PPC). I'm not sure that anyone knows what the competitive life of a 30BR barrel is -- it's just about impossible to wear one out.

For short-range benchrest, .30 caliber bullets are considerably more expensive than 6mm bullets, so keep that in mind.

I wouldn't shoot a 10.5 pound 30BR, but apparently some are man enough to do it. If you can't shoot 10.5 pounds for sporter and LV, with a 13.5 pound rifle you're limited to HV class, varmint for score, or unlimited/heavy (shooting against rail guns).

I thought I would post this.
Last weekend, I shot 30.8 grins of VV N150 behind my new 103 grn BT. Accuracy at 200 yards was very good, velocity an average 2910 FPS out of a 27 inch 1-8 Krieger.
