6mm BR loads using 4320 and WW748

6mm BR loads using 4320 and WW748

I can't seem to find much data using these two powders in a 6mm BR, so I thought I'd toss out the question to the forum. My 6mm BR is a 1/14 twist, so I'm most interested in data with bullet weights of 75 gr. and less.

Thanks!

Johnly,
My 6BR 1:14 loves the following and is deadly accurate:
1) 34.5 gr. Varget, CCI 450 small rifle mag. primer, with either a 65 gr. Hornady V-Max or a 65 gr. Berger MEF touching the lands. Velocity is approx. 3400 ft/s.

2) 31.0 gr. VV135, Federal Match small rifle primer, with either of the above two bullets.

3) 33.8 gr. Varget, CCI 450 small rifle mag. primer, with either a 68 gr. Fowler, Hammonds, or Starke Red Prairie. Velocity is approx. 3250 to 3300 ft/sc.

Bear in mind that these are safe in my rifle and you should work up a load carefully. From what I have seen, it is hard finding a load that will not shoot, versus one that will; the caliber is that easy to load for. Most of these loads, I took off this site and with a few tweaks, got good results. Look at the reload tab data page and go from there.

John, years ago I tried 748 with the 60's and 65's and I was not real pleased in my 22" barrel. I went to 33.5g of H-335,3550 in this short bbl) and shot very tiny bug holes at 100 yards with the load, then proceded to massacre the squirrels out to 350 with this load. One thing that was very special about this load, it did not errode the barrel like other powders, and I don't know why. I shot the bbl what seemed like red hot many, many times.

You may want to give 335 or 2230 a try for the light bullets, I think that you will be very pleasantly surprised first time to the range!

Thanks for suggestions. H335 is on my list of powders to try.

My 6BR shoots 65-70 bullets quite well with RL-7, H4895, and Varget. It it but totally pukes, going from 3s to 1+" inch groups) when I tried H322 in it. That was a real shock.

I just had a couple of 8lb jugs of 748 and 4320 on hand, so I thought I'd give it a try in the 6mm BR. I'll skip the 748 trial, but still might give the 4320 a try after digger "season".

Both powders should work for hunting loads under 1" easily but i supose nobody has tried because their are so many combinations that do work. I have used 748 verry well and also with with 760 in a 222 and 50gr bullets so give it a try you may teach us it works it is not until someone tries it that we find out how it go's.

748 should meter well through the measure and be uniform in droped charges you might as well try them the 748 is durtier powder though so you would have to cleen more often.
