Favorite 6mm BR Loads

Just got done retesting Varget behind the 105 Hybrids. Typical California temp, maybe low 80s at the warmest part of the day. Loaded from 29 to 31 in .5 grain increments. No heavy bolt lift, but a bit of primer impingement around the firing pin at 31. Primers looked nice and rounded, and no marks on the brass. I might be loading further out than you guys; dunno. Most consistent load area was 29, 29.5 and 30 gr. All three shot right around .120" at 100 yds. Have to check a bit lower next time out and see how wide that node actually is.

Bat B action, 26" Krieger 1.25 cylinder, 1 in 7.5" twist, Mcmillan F-class stock, Vortex Golden Eagle, Jewell BR trigger.
I was thinking foxguy had a factory gun, I may be mistaken on that but that is why I thought 30gn was to much. ;0)

try some N140 with your 105 or 108 class bullets. i switched to it from Varget, got better vertical and fantastic ES/SD numbers. it was grain for grain the same load as my Varget load. 30" Krieger, 1 in 8 twist

Using Fed205gm primers and Lapua brass, I found Benchmark made a good combo with Sierra 70 grain Blitzkings. My particular barrel was a 6ppc barrel with about 1300 rounds down it when I converted it to a short barreled 6br for varmints. The barrel is still smooth but it didn't like 70 grain ballistic tips or 75 grain Vmax. Only the blitzkings worked really well.

With Benchmark, I use the low end node of 32.5 grains because it shot a little better at 200 yards than the high node of 34.5 grains. Although the 32.5 grain load is kinda slow, it shoots great and still whaps the chucks well.

Also, my barrel is only 21" long so trying for super speed with it was kinda pointless.

6mmbr.com recommends using CCI br primers in the 6br and I couldn't see where it made any difference, except that my groups got bigger with them. Fed 205gm primers worked the best by far in every load I tried.

What do the numbers V10-v90 and ke0 K10 mean or represent in your chart?

What do the numbers V10-v90 and ke0 K10 mean or represent in your chart?

V10= velocity @ 10 yds
V50= velocity @ 50 yds

Ke0= kinetic energy @ the muzzle ( or very close to the muzzle)
ke10= kinetic energy @ 10 yds

the kinetic energy numbers are not accurate, as i have a 175 gr bullet entered into the software. i don't care about the energy numbers or the downrange velocities, so i don't ever change the values in the software in the LabRadar

the radar is not picking up this 108 gr bullet @ 90 yds, hence those numbers are all zeros. it is only sporadically picking up the 50 yd velocities.

read to the right, ie the third shot 50 yd velocity is 2807

My BRX "loves" 107 SMK's using LR15 or Varget (almost the same results). I have heard of great respective shooters who love the same cohabitation.

Around the 35 grain range, "some" loving the 107's jammed in the lands around .035 thousandths. ALLAYS WORK UP TO THIS LOAD, YOU RIFLE MAY NOT LIKE IT.

I recently purchased a BR rifle in 6BR. Not my first one. Been shooting 6.5s for awhile and only have one pound of Varget. Since there is none coming in the near future I have been doing some side by side testing with H4895. Only shot a dozen or so groups but so far the 4895 is looking a little better than Varget @ 100 yards. It is winter here in northern Utah so the testing is going slowly. CCI450s are scarce here also so I will be testing them against 7 1/2 also. It would be nice to get off the Varget/450 band wagon.

A follow up to the above post. I am on the H4895 band wagon. I have tested H4895 loads exclusively the last 100 rounds. It is aging in the low .3 and am still playing with seating depth. Been shooting in 22 to 28 degree weather to boot. The load I have settled on is 29.7 seated just touching the lands. Lapua brass, CCI-450 with a .266 bushing. Nine rounds clocked 2928 out of a 29" barrel this morning. SD 3 and ES 11. 300 yard testing just around the corner.

Dennis, shooting about the same thing here in Pa in a pair of BRX s for about 10 yrs. Varget with tipped 107 SMK s, 8 twist tune for 2990 works well to 1000.

I have IMR4895, will it do just as good as H4895? Waiting on my Encore 16", ten twist barrel to get here from MGM.

1000yd, I have a 6BR 14 twist Cooper varmint and its favourite load is 30.5grns of Vit 135 pushing a 68grn Berger, sparked off by a Fed 205M primer out of Lapua brass.
This load passes over the chrono for an average of 3120FPS and is extremely accurate.

I enjoy shooting varmints with light bullets going fast. The gun just loves AA2230 powder. Most accurate loads are:
55 Blitzking - 35.5 / 2230 / Rem.7-1/2BR = 3919 / .120" ....the load I shoot with this bullet
58Vmax - 35.0 / 2230 / 7-1/2BR = 3855 / .185"................. "
Accuracy window is large with a couple best accuracy spots, these are the fastest most accurate ones.
Sako 579 - 24" Hart barrel, braked, 14" twist, 0 freebore chamber. A real sweet gun.
