Smartass LOL.

So anyway, these aren’t your daddy’s 60 grain 22 bullets. I put together a 1/10 22 Creed to shoot 53Vmax at around 4000 but still be able to shoot some new 60ish grain bullets I’d heard about coming. (60/64 Sierra and what turned into 62 Hornady) I got my hands on a couple of early testers and finally tried them tonight. I knew what was about to happen but I still had to try. 40 grains of RL15.5 in Lapua brass went 3640. Had 3, and tried at 100yds, 50yds and finally from 20yds made an impact. LOLIMG_3940.jpeg

Timmy’s phone didn’t study much back in grade school so he asked me to post a pic.

New 62 Hornady at 4000+, 406 yards turns them inside out.

8 twist it is!!

I have shot two 3-shot groups from my 8 twist 223AI, 20 inch barrel. Working load for this gun is 53gr VMAX at 3500fps.

The first group was about 2.5 MOA, I didn't chrono it but I was guessing on the powder charge extrapolating from my 53gr load so I was a bit conservative. I upped the charge .5 gr and shot a group at 3350fps, this group was 3+MOA. All of the holes were nice and round. I do not believe I can go much higher, it was cold today and my 3500fps summer load was running 3450fps so I'd only get 30-50fps max before I was running loads I couldn't shoot in warm weather.

I think there is a reason they call for a 7 twist, although in the Hornady podcast on the VT they said an 8 twist may work "in most conditions".

I could burn a bunch of components testing alternate powders and seating depths, which is what I would do if it was MOA. But I don't think it's worth the effort in an 8 twist, if it's that temperamental the performance window (if there is one) is probably very small. I had an extra upper and bolt carrier lying around so I already ordered a 7 twist, 22" 22ARC barrel.

1.048” Timmy’s

Most pics I’ve seen from the “blems” compared to 75 ELDM, the 62 is noticeably shorter. The ones I acquired were actually longer than the 75ELDM that I have and measured 1.125”. I don’t believe the finished product will be what mine measured. I also don’t believe there is any reason to not listen to Hornady when they list 1/8 twist barrel. Back in the before times, we shot 75 Amax. SOME 1/9 barrels would shoot them, some wouldn’t. So, we went with 1/8 in 22-250/22-250AI to be sure.

Been a long time since I tried to be intelligent. Seem to remember most stability calculators don’t take ballistic tips into account so that may throw things askew a bit. With that said, Berger’s calculator actually called for 1/7.5 with that length entered at 0 elevation and blah blah blah. BUT, like mentioned above, I don’t think that calculator is accurate when using tipped bullet length.

That doesn't sound right. I think there is some other issue.

Like a donut.

the stability calculator at JBM Ballistics does account for the plastic tip.
That said, if the bullet is hollow inside somewhere, that would not be accounted for.

There is not a donut. And I've familiar with and have experienced them.

Not quite sure why the default is a fault of mine, shooting bullets in a 1:8 that are advertised for a 1:7, when you have generated no information to prove they are viable in a 1:8. Kind of makes me question you. I'm regretting I bothered to share information to try and help inform people as the feedback has been uniformly negative, and 100% by people who have not tried this for themselves. I'm a scientist, if you want to share your data and it shows something else I'm 100% open to it. If you want to criticize without sharing any actual data, well, on what grounds am I to value your opinion? I'm on multiple forums and I have yet to see ANYONE show a nice group shooting these from a 1:8. I actually hope I'm wrong.

No need to get all bent out of shape. But whatever... Suit yourself.
