Factory Rifle Accuracy

I have a Savage 308 HB with crappy stock. It was the "tactical" model. That damn thing would shoot 3/8, and one time I think it got to .19. 3 shot groups. I could only shoot 2/3 box of federal gold medal 168 gr and I would have to stop, due the ass-kicking my shoulder would take. It had an older Weaver T10 scope on it. I tried the lighter 150ish grain FGM and it did not shoot good at all. I have considered buying a high quality McMillan stock for it, but never pulled the trigger. Never shoot it now. And it is not for sale.

I had a "factory" Mosin Nagant that was capable of putting 5 rounds into 6" at 100 with surplus ammo.

Like someone above, it was the 110FP model.

I had one last year I traded to a friend for his daughter to hunt with. She’s taken it out to 900 yards. Hopefully she’ll get her deer this year.

The only changes I made were a two stage trigger and a ghille green stock from the black.

I think there's a lot of factory rifles that will do .5" or better but the problem with a lot is they are thin sporter barrels that heat up quickly so they couldn't be competitive in a match. I had a 3006 Winchester xpr that would do .5 for the first group but would then start stringing verticals all over the place as it heated up.
Same experience with weatherby vanguard 30-06. Take time between shots and it'll stack Sierra 180s in 1" at 200. Get the barrel hot, and it'll walk all over. Hunting accuracy, it's great!

I'd say default seems to be that manufacturers try for sub-moa 3-shot groups, with a barrel cool in-between

I have a 243....783 rem that shoots about .750 to 1.5 inch pretty regular I'm very happy with that, can bust a rock at 300yds so I say it's good lol

I was experimenting with W748 to see what it would do fir a hunting load in my Tikka T3, .308. I usually use IMR 4064. First group is at the top. Maybe 5 minutes between groups but not completely cold. Groups opened up mostly because of me. My right elbow was dragging on the bench and I got recoil shy. You can see a big difference in the cool bore shot in groups 2 and 3. I can get, maybe .70” out of this rifle with 4064.
