F-Class hall of fame?

Erik Cortina

Team Lapua Brux Borden Captain
F-Class is growing very rapidly. Is it time we start thinking about a hall of fame?

Point system same as NBSA's point system.

10 points and you're in.

National record = 1 point
National match = 2 points for each individual yardage won
National match overall winner = 3 points

Can only earn points if you win, no points awarded for second or third.

That is a fine idea you have there Eric. I like it!!!! It is a strong motivation in other disciplines and seems like it's time for it. Who do you have in mind for keeping the records ?

I like the idea. By the way, how many points do you have Erik ???

Shouldn't a national record be higher than a national match win? Also points for individual wins. Not team matches. ;D

No. A National Match is a multi-day event that tests a shooter's ability to excel in a variety of conditions. A national record could be the result of one good string on a highly protected range or in very calm conditions.

No, a national match win cannot be the result of one good string. Regardless, a record is one string. A national match win is the result of seven or eight strings. No comparison.

I never said one string. ;D

Maybe you guys could come up with a program that tests your wind reading and marksmanship skills...

50 round match
No sighters
200, 300, and 600 yards

Get 10, 8. Or 6 points for a top 10% finish

Need 30 points to qualify

Just kidding...a little.

I think its a good idea.

The questions would be:

1) What body would manage this - something new like "F-Class Shooting Association of America"? FSAA?
2) Would the wins from the "elephant" targets that were used in the beginning couple of years also count?

These are questions and not statements, so hopefully they should be addressed in that spirit.

I would start counting from the time the HoF was established. Everyone start at 0.

Then it would be for the younger generation and I would not be in favor of it (or couldn't care less).

This idea is great, but just starting an association, having general meetings and getting organized could take a few years. Then you start at 0? There are guys like Jim Murphy that should be on there, but probably would not be due to the years it would take to accumulate the points and life's priorities (life beyond F-Class).

In that case then go back to when F-Class started. Look at all the Nationals results and add up the points. The big target shooters would also count since they won against shooters shooting at the same target.

+1 ;D

Erik,
I considered starting a HoF a number of years ago just as I started the 450 Club in the early 2000's but got too much negative feedback because everyone I talked to wanted different things to count. But questions have to be asked and answered for it to work properly. My questions are not meant to be derogatory but just to being ideas forward for discussion.

F-Class Hall of Fame questions -
Who runs it and sponsors it?
What does someone get (memento) for making the list?
When do the points start accumulating?
Is this just for Long range?
What about Mid-Range?
What about the SoA/ Fullbore National Championships.
What about the World Championships? Do these people make it into the HoF?
What is more important a national win or a 1st, 2d or 3rd in the Worlds?

FWIW, IMO a top 3 finish in National or Worlds is much more of an accomplishment than a National record. Records are made to be broken and are. Beating a 100 or more shooters in a championships is another thing altogether.

In any FC Hof two people should be at the top of the list (horary if need be), George "Farky" Farquharson the originator of F-Class and J.J. Conway the father of U.S. F-Class. J.J. articles in Precision Shooting got many of today's better shooters started. At 89 J.J. would still be kicking butt in the Worlds if he could only see!

Just for the sake of argument...

Isn't 'Hall of Fame' points (with regards to the shooting sports) a Benchrest thing? Given the wording in 3.4.1(a)(2) it might be a bit sticky...

This discipline is a modification of high power prone shooting, not a form of bench rest and should not be construed as such.
