etched bolt with CLR

Got it cleaned up and functioning. Polished, cleaned and painted the uneven color in flutes. Yup my ''stuff'' will be going back to Kelbly'panda bolt.JPGs for service in the fall. Great people right there. ;}

CLR contains two acids that are chelating agents, meaning that they dissolve metals. Use internet "hacks", especially those on U-toob, atyour own risk.

Everybody on the interwebz wants to be the one to have the "inside track" or "hot tip" on something.

Actually, chelates work quite differently than usual acids do although the result can be the removal of specific compounds including some metals. Regardless of the actual chemical reactions, here is what the manufacturer has to say about using CLR on metals. Personally I won’t have it anywhere near my firearms.
