CLR

I did not read all the posts in their entirety so please forgive me if I am repeating others.
I work in a lab as part of my job and while reading this today I decided to put some CLR in a small beaker and test the pH. The pH is 2.00
It smells like muratic acid to me but most acids do smell similar so that means little I guess. I just get more of that metallic smell with muratic similar to this which is why I say this.

A 10 year old bottle of ammonia was 2.45 pH and since this is the base of most copper solvents I guess it goes to show that acids are not bad in themselves as barrel cleaners.

Be careful on your soak times and be extra careful when cleaning this stuff out of your barrel as it should be "neutralized" or completely flushed from the bbl... especially on non stainless bbls and out of cracked throats.

It means nothing but my opinion is this new CLR cleaner is nothing more than a new fad that will go away. I just don't see a miracle product to chemically wash hard carbon out of a bbl. For me it always comes down to scrubbbing with JB or a similar product.

This is my old post on CLR , it did work great , even after I thought the barrel was cleaned spotless the CLR patch came out covered with carbon , my thoughts were how could that be . Two patches with CLR and the patches came out clean . I have to say , clean out all the CLR because some CLR must have been in the locking lug gutter in the barrel and discolored the outer edge of the bolt face on my Rem.700 , barrel is SS bolt is carbon steel. So get all the CLR off , a few drops on a patch , I saturated the patch , was my mistake . But the stuff works on carbon .
