entry level custom vs trued 700

Now you can ask yourself the question: "What options and configuration do I want?"

Based on no knowledge of how you like to shoot or how you intend to set up this rifle, I'll offer that for shooting from a bench, I REALLY like Right bolt, Left Load, Drop Port configuration.

Hey, if they like the feel of the car, the sound of the engine, the looks they get pulling up at the vallet of their favorite restaurant, then mission accomplished. Don't have to go fast to enjoy a well engineered driving experience, or as often the case - to get the feeling of privilege at having bought "the expensive one". When you really start to question their sanity is when they've buy the masochism special, the GT3 RS, to daily drive around the city.

my grandma wanted a new car once ( she only drove caddy’s ) wanted me to go with her.. we walked into the dealership ... she sat in one on the show room floor said I like it I think I’ll take it... sales man said well mrs anderson ... I can have one here for you next week just like it.... she responded with young man I don’t think you understand me, I am driving this car home today... who do I write the check to... salesman looked at me I shrugged my shoulders ... next thing I know the owner of the dealer ship is there in front of us telling my grandma he is personally going to fill it up with fuel for her and make sure it’s cleaned and will be ready in 15 minutes... she looked at me.. see what you can do when you are older and have money spike... I just laughed and said yes grandma.. I think about it every so often as she is in a home with dementia now and just laugh

I have several Remington rifles that Dan Dowling built for me ( 6Br-/.223/.30-06/). These shoot just as well as my custom actions (Hall- Nesika),with way less money. If you trade rifles often get custom-if you plan on keeping it go Remington.

Just my observation but unless you have some sort of rare collector gun, you're going to lose money or time or both on your guns if you get rid of them. Doesn't matter if it's a BAT or a Stevens. So the best advice I can offer anyone is to buy something that makes them excited and happy and don't worry about how much it'll sell for at some unknown date in the future because it mostly likely won't be for as much as they'd hoped!

Here in Tulsa, its is the obligatory $65k monster 4x4 truck to drive back and forth to work... hahahaha
Here in Colorado too. You know, the F350 lifted 6" with 37" tires and the shiniest, cleanest underside you ever have seen (because it's lifted so high). And it's never seen more than perhaps a few grocery bags in it, much less a dirt road or a trailer.

Based upon what the OP's intended use is, I would suggest buy a Remington Action and not bothering to true it. Most of the recent "RR" actions faces are square (with in .001" most of the time). I would opt to just have a gunsmith fit the barrel and time the action. I think this would get the OP the most bang for his dollar. Attached are two photos of a cut rifling Remage barrel.

Have both custom and trued Factory 700s. Whoever says you can't feel a difference when running a custom action over a factory 700 is either lying or has an agenda. In my experience with a trued 700, I wouldn't do it again. You lose all of the benefits of screwing on a barrel yourself and are married to a 'smith unless you own tooling to machine. I'm down this road now with an LRI trued 700 action that was opened up to 1.085 and it needs a new barrel. The original Krieger on a good day wouldn't hold 3/4 MOA freshly installed. $900 to chamber/thread/crown/muzzle thread a new barrel makes me regret the decision to have gone this route.

With either a factory 700 or a custom action, you can install your own barrels (i.e. Remage setup) or have the option to use a 'smith with a shouldered barrel.
