Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

Just for everyone’s info, my Electric Chevy Bolt EUV has lost about 20% of its charging capacity during the cold winter.

That means instead of the summertime charge at around 250 miles, it charges to around 200 miles.

It’s no big deal to me.
Sir, you live in Texas. Or at least your profile states so.

Try that in most any state above Missouri.

I also noted today that the nationwide charging station funding has been axed, pending new applications and approvals.

Doesn't some guy associated with ending Government waste have something to do with EVs.......

Call him whatever you like.

He's not stupid, so I take his views under consideration.

The behavior of some politicians this past couple of weeks however.....
I have a reply for you, but I don’t want to derail a 3 year old thread.

I just saw that EU sales of Teslas have dropped 30-65 percent per country. Hmm
At least in the UK we have electricity something like 4x the price of the US. They are also rolling back a lot of the tax breaks and the corporate buyers are pretty well saturated now. The private buyers don't have any money ;) Until they fix the economy sales are only going down here. I suspect we haven't hit the bottom yet, given the price of gold is at an all time high I'd say confidence is low right now.

Went to the grocery store yesterday morning. Noticed there was an EV at the charging station, battery charging with the driver sitting inside reading a book. Spent about an hour looking and shopping.
Came out when done shopping, driver still charging up while reading his book. Must have been a good read?

Made a run to the other end of town, maybe a half hour+ and noticed while passing back by the EV charging station again, book reader/EV charger still there. Had to be a REAL GOOD BOOK!! ;)

Thank you for this post. I think it's hilarious.

I work with a guy who bought a Tesla about a year ago. Still doesn't have a rapid charger available at his home. I think he found out it would require an electric service upgrade. ($$$$$$).
So, he stops at a grocery store on the way home everyday and has to find something to to do for 45 minutes while the car charges.
Every. Single. Day.
Won't talk about what that costs him, either.

Unbelievable.

May be funny but, there ARE folks that have and use their EV with great success. IMHO, more power to them. Just not my style, at least for now.
Someone mention knowing someone that picked up a used hybrid for cheap needing a battery. Got a replacement battery and are enjoying their new ride? Sure beats dropping BIG $$$$ before you get enough info on a rig to see if it fits your plans.

I've not noticed anyone bragging about deals in the used EV car market. Then again, deals in any area of the used car market seem to have dried up. Or such is my experience.

Since I am a full-on Journeyman Okie (if not PhD), and my mind is polluted with ideas of extreme weirdness, I'm wondering --
-- if a guy could find a decent priced EV with good battery, and park it along side the house with a solar charger/maintainer. If the power goes out that could be like your Generac power supply to keep the freezer and such going until or if the power comes back. And of the EV could be used as transportation if needed.

Of course this might require an Okie with electrician qualification to do a proper lash-up. jd

Possible? Yes. Practical? No.

Cost effective? That depends. If you've a lot of resources ($$$) this isn't a particular concern, anyway. I've always wondered about resources however. Folks talk about the 'Gold Standard'.

Tried eating Gold? I suspect it doesn't taste very good. Never tried it, so I don't know. But.

What is it really worth when you're hungry?

You can set some weeds on fire if you need to cook something or don't like the dark.
