ejection problem lrpv

I just got a used savage model 12 lrpv in 22-250 and it will not eject a fired case out of the action. It just leaves it laying in the follower. Is this the way that these actions work?

No....it should eject, but this is a common problem. It is caused primarily by an oversize bolt face and undersize brass. The first thing to try is replace the detent ball under the extractor plate with a .140' ball.

I would suspect that someone took the ejector spring out of the bolt face to stop the action from pressing the cartridges into chamber at a canted angle and to avoid case neck dents when the empty is ejected. To me what you have is a GOOD THING.

You can see if this is the case by taking the bolt out and inspecting the ejector plunger for 'springy-ness' or see if it is missing.

I took the ejector out of my Savage 6mmBR because it scarred up the brass badly upon ejection. Now I just flick the empty case out with a finger. Easier on brass, and much easier to control where the brass ends up.
