should I go 29.5 down an look for a node ???? help

A ladder test is done by firing different charges at same point of aim and evaluating the vertical dispersion between shots. No group shooting in a ladder test.

I see says the blind man !!!lol

im trying to find best load for this new 6mmbr not sure what correct name of test I did ? sorry any help wood be great ? not happy with groups ... thanks

There is a very long thread on load development method somewhere on this site meant to be shot at 100 yards. Find it and follow it, it will save you time and components.

first thing I would do is get your self some H 4895 powder..That varget DOES not work for me nor a lot of guys...And some claim reloader 15 is better, depending on your bullet weight.... ::)

A lot of the longrange guys are using Varget with a BR4 primer. I have seen a lot of good 10 shot groups shot at 1000 with this combo. Almost everybody I know uses this combo. Matt

When I get a combo that wont group with different charges, I pick one and go after seating depth them go back and shoot different powder charges. If it still wont group, change a component, powder and or bullet. If that wont work change your barrel.

Alex, that is why i quit using Varget, Plus i don't take much stock in ladder test. I prefer small groups in controlled conditions with low ES. and that will repeat……. jim

I would add all the lead you can get in it. Maybe come in around 20 pounds or so. It seems R15 with a 450 is used a lot. Also Varget and BR4 and the guys in Montana use H4895 and not sure which primer. It also seems to me that the powder and primer thing seems to be in regions across the country. Montana uses H 49895 and Williamsport uses Varget and BrR 4's. It seems people more to the south use R15 and 450's. Just from what I know of the competition uses. I would try Berger 105 VLD's 10 in with Varget and Br4's. The 105 Hybrid is good and most guns like them off a little. I would try to switch to BR's because Varget doesn't need a magnum primer. Also do what Alex says and move the seating depth around. I like to start in because then there is only one way to go. Most of my guns have shot best in. Matt

Jim, Tom, Alex. Do you guys ever test for for seating depth using a light powder charge and then work up on powder? I suppose you have enough experience with a given bullet to have a pretty good idea where to seat it in a new barrel but I just wondered.

Matt -

Thinking Alex was on RL15 with his "agging" gun.
And if not mistaken, Tom may have been on 203B.
Over my way, about an even split with Varget and RL15, and 8208 has some fallowing as well as a couple on H4350

I have found than no matter what barrel i use or made by any barrel maker as long as it is chambered with the same reamer it will shoot the same load. I tried 8208 and it does shoot good but ES is higher, H 4895 is my second best pick but velocity is lower than RL-15. RL -15 is the best for small groups and super low ES and i had it as low as 1 this year, i didn't shoot much 1000 this year but the last match with the light gun was a 2" two 3" and a 4" groups. I don't see the reason for ladder test or trying to tune at mid range or 1000 yds….. I would guess everybody has their way but this seems to work for me, but the quality of the equipment you use is the determining factor on group size …….. jim

I don't understand the ladder test...Please splain it in detail...Somebody told me you shoot at one bull.....Seems to me you would get your shots a freaked up...

I wish i could, i don't use it. It seems to me they look for a spot where a few tens of powder doesn't seem to make a difference. The first problem is conditions affect the bullet more than a few tens of powder charge. Most can't measure a .1 or less in powder charge. Too many variables, you can see all of this at 100 yds under controlled conditions…… jim
