Do it yourself Stock making thread

Here ya go. It gives the stock a bell shape that’s easy to get a good grip on. It narrows the stock on top. The bits come in different degrees, up to 45.
I got into using ebony years ago. It’s one of my favorites and not many people use it. It’s not cheap, tho!

I got a question on how I form. I get the basic angles and curves close, then I hold the stock up to see the profile against a white wall. I want smooth curves. Start at the top and sand off the high spots. Rotate a little, mark the high spot with a pencil and sand it off. Slowly work around the stock.

That west systems will hold a shed to concrete . My paddock rifle cops a hammering in the ute and the west system holds up well to how my rifle gets treated.

IMG_1974.jpegIMG_1975.jpegIMG_1976.jpegIMG_1977.jpegIMG_1978.jpegI did an experiment. A couple days ago, I glued some oak together using Titebond 2 wood glue. I’ve been using it for years to laminate blanks. I glued a 6” x 2” piece in between two longer pieces. I let it cure in the clamps. Today, I put it in the oven at 225 degrees for an hour and .1/2. (My wifey was out getting her hair done so it was safe.) I pulled it out and fast walked to the shop. I tried to pull it apart by hand and couldn’t do it. I clamped it to the bench and used a crow bar. It came apart at the glue joint. Take it for what it’s worth.
I’m going to do it again using epoxy. I just have to wait until my wifey goes out before I use her oven again.

I'd say that qualifies as an extreme test. Wow! The leverage involved.....
I feel pretty safe continuing to use Titebond 2 in my stock building. I am going to try to find some of that other glue that was suggested. I’ll give it a test, too.

If one finds a sand pile big enough and the right guy, I hear crowbar can be bent that way too.
