Do it yourself Stock making thread

I have decided that there is NO WAY I am posting any photos of my 40X stock adapted to a huge HART 2000 then down to a BAT SV.

My dad used to say "Caulk and paint make a carpenter what he Ain't". I can't seem to rhyme Marine Tex....

AND I just discovered that I set the rear tang pillar too low...failed to account for comb vs clean look thru the scope. Dammit.

Any hints on getting a pillar out (Marine-tex) without destroying it??

We would never let our carpenters chalk a joint. That way they new everyone on the job would see their work while waiting for the painter to show up. Including me:). Everything always seemed to turn out tight;)

heat gun or propane torch?? I have the torch! ;)
I wouldn't recommend direct use of either. You want the heat in the pillar without damaging the wood/foam/plastic. I've had luck setting up for a plunge cut with a dull endmill, the cut didn't get very far before the heat broke the epoxy bond and the pillar pushed thru.

Put a soldering iron in the pillars so it sits at an angle and the tip sits against the inside of the pillars. After a few minutes you should be able to push it out but you'll need new epoxy.

Thank you. Ill give that a try.

Red acrylic that is used in pen making might look good.

Close to the slow cure epoxy I use. Google “River tables” . Check out Naknecker’s gun adds and look at his coffee table. Same thing in black.

Josh I see a yellow to orange fade in your epoxy for the mesquite then some copper and vintage amber for the wood

I’ve got to figure something “gorgeous” out. I just read the Bulletin. Nothing I’ve done has ever made the bulletin. I’ll keep trying!
