Do it yourself Stock making thread

Well, there has to be SOME benefit of a custom "one off" versus a mass produced stock.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: I should have dusted off the original before I took the picture. Might have been a subconscious thing on my part.;) Preacher's oil makes anything look great.
Another great job-excellent work

Thanks. It's only an 1/8" off.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:I'm learning when and when not to trust the machine. You'll see it when you put an action in it. It's not final bedded yet, either.

Aw! No hard feelings. You just hit a nerve. What burned me about making this "exact copy" was that I couldn't find the original hardware, so no matter how hard I tried any body could tell it was a copy.

you did a tremendous job on it so i hope you feel you succeded

Quiet, in the back of the class! I'll have to call the principle! I should say this, now. I never went to Gunsmithing school. Heck, I never finished college. This "build" is a layman's stock. There are areas where I will cut corners to make the build easier, faster and less technically challenging. I think the end result functions just as well without those details. I'll point them out as I go along and you can decide if you want to spend the extra time to deal with it. For instance, the mag well. I like the design because it allows you to hide a 5 round mag in it and you can support the gun there without putting pressure on the mag. It also "hides" a sloppy inlet. You need a flashlight to see any gaps between your bottom metal and the wood. Makes it sooo much faster and easier to do.:)
Great! I'm a perfeshnal layman so this should be right up my alley.

Another new guy here. I just want to share the stock I made. It was a cheap piece of black walnut with fairly straight grain, so I could learn how. Here is what it looks like currently, I am still waiting on a barrel so the barrel channel is not finalized. Then I will finish sanding and clear coat. I think I did well enough to purchase a nicer more figured blank.

If you care to see a few more photos and read a bit about what I did (https://cstucktroutbum.wixsite.com/website/single-post/2018/07/23/Custom-Walnut-Rifle-Stock) I am new to the forum so take it easy
