Another good shop day. Snow falling, wood stove going and Christmas music playing. Inletted for the trigger, bolt release and safety. Laminated 2 pieces of 3/16 walnut on the fore arm sides and did the routing. That brings the fore arm to a width of 2 1/4. Almost done. Bolt handle cut, final sanding and an oil finish.

My gosh man, that thing is gorgeous.

Terry: With your skills and shop........piece of cake. Breaking the ice with the "first one" is hardest step. After that, they practically make themselves! Thanks.

Finally finished the other one. 13 or 14 coats of Preacher's oil. Old Tikka 595 in 22-250 AI. I'm going to shoot this barrel out, then change it out to a 6br or some 6.5 cartridge

This one is coated with Arrow oil;) Hand rubbed, literally. You put some on your palm and rub.

Thanks Paul. That's the original Master Sporter stock that started this venture into stockmaking. I couldn't find the bare stock so I figured I'd try to make them. This one is a shot at a exact copy.

excellent work as usual--is that strippling sprayed on or something they do to the wood? i have seen it in person before. i guess this means the garage is ship shape now?

No. The garage crawls forward. I'm finally putting up the drywall on the stair wall. Those 12' sheets of 5/8 drywall seem heavier than they used to be. This was revived for a guy that might be interested in doing one and couldn't find the thread. The exact copy awaits my attention. Final sanding, stippling and finish is all it needs. The stippling is done with "hard spikes", driven into the surface to make holes. Then painted with the black. I found some cans of rubberized tool grip coating that matches the original paint fairly well in feel and color. I need about 8 more hours on it to finish.

Here are some pics of the copy, where it sits. On the stippling. I tried 4-5 different tools. None of them matched the original texture until I made my own with a bunch of finish nails and some hose clamps. Yup I grew up in the sticks!;)
