The only way to learn cnc programming imo, is to start doing it. The more you do, the better you will get.

Fusion 360 CAD and CAM are the only way to go..

Steep learning curve, once you have your CAD down then step into the world CAM.
Setup, tool paths and depending your machine 4th axis or flat bed. This is by far the hardest to hurdle to tackle.

Assume one has a fully inletted wood stock. What material would/could be used to fill in the lnletting 90% to start from scratch?

I wouldn't use glass balloons for filler in the action area, you want a solid filler like chopped fiberglass fill, especially in the recoil lug area and rear range area and anywhere pillars are going to be.

I don't know about that..
I was thinking 3M panel bonder done in a couple few applications to keep heat down from cureing.

Got some sanding done and barrel channels cut today.
Built a new jig for my CNC with two 5” soft jaw vices. Makes inletting a breeze and now save tons of time on setup. Made the Bat M action drawings in Fusion 360 and will now CNC all inlets moving forward. Will add numerous more.
Have a complete build starting here soon for a friend.

I’ve seen these in the making, very high quality wood, precision measurement, a true craftsman. As a matter of fact the lighter stock with the dark center is mine, its Curly Maple with Wenge. ChristianSilver does not settle for good enough, he is exact in everything he does. I was in the shop a couple days ago as he was cutting stocks with Maple and carbon fiber layers. Really beautiful work.

Without the skills of a master craftsman I’m having a friend build a stock for my long range gun.
Being overly enthusiastic I just had to share a picture sent to me last night of the maple slab that shall be layered with walnut to create something special and very similar to the second picture.
