Do it yourself Stock making thread

I think you should give that talented son of yours a duplicator for Christmas. Tables are nice and functional, but so are stocks.
He would do it if he had more time, maybe someday, he loves projects like that!

I might try it someday when I retire……. It would be fun. I’d have to do it when I have more time, I’m not the most patient person when it comes to stuff like that or turning wrenches….
I made a copy of a Master Sporter stock in my duplicator. I added an 1/8” all the way around the front end and 1/4” around the butt. It will make it a little beefier than the original, which I’ve always considered a little thin in the butt. I’ll do the stippling and rubber paint to make it look like the original. I did a copy for Dusty, a few years ago and wanted to do one for myself. I bought a 595 action over the summer and a new takeoff barrel in 243. I have a CTR bottom metal set and I’ll see if I can put it together while I’m in Texas.

Another 1 set up ready to start machining tomorrow for an fclass stock . Hopefully have it ready to deliver to new owner next week on our travels . Off for another month away on feral animal duties .

Out of the duplicator this arvo on to the mill to deck the top and square the bottom to top of stock. Next is a bit of hand shaping sanding . Then inletting and epoxy bedding block in the sealer coat before handing over to the new owner.

No much use on it, what I do with PH when I get it is to hand select at a local shop to me.
Moisture content below 7%, hit it with soaked rag of acetone.
Store my wood in climate control, dry and dark.
Use Smiths penetrating expoy once a cut is made.

Nice cnc is the go need to get my flat bed cnc router going . Just need to learn how to do cad/cam but to busy doing other stuff at the moment
