Digital cameras

Where is a good source for purchasing a digital camera? I've been looking on ebay and they have tons of stuff. Just wondering if there is a better source with better prices? Let me know, thanks!

I recently bought a digital camera primarily for recording video. Through the years I've purchased digital's but was always depressed to find phone cameras catching up to and matching my "new" hunnerds-of-dalars-worth of cameras....... So I hadn't bought one for ten yrs.

But I decided I wanted a GOOD video camera.

So's I went to the geeks and the guys who do this for a living filming outdoor shows and production films and asked about good video-cams or camcorders.

And ended up with something ENTIRELY different!

I found out about the Sony DSLR Alpha A7 series of cameras

My "budget" went from "up to 5-600 dollars, max" to 2500.00 but I gotta tell ya this thing is AWESOME!!

It shoots spectacular movie quality videos, it shoots amazing pictures but most weirdest of all IT SEES IN THE DARK!

I can't honestly call this tech "future-proof" but I think I'll be satisfied for the rest of my life with this "buy once/cry once" purchase.

How much are you looking to spend?
Not sure that i have a budget at this point. This is just the beginning point for me in searching out what is available. The point i am trying to get to is have a decent, not exactly sure what that means, camera so my son can do some 4-H projects. Once he is through with that then the family will have it for future uses.
One recommendation to me this morning was a Canon Rebel ti5 or better.

I bought a nice Nikon DSLR on Amazon a couple years ago

They seemed to have very good pricing and lots of reviews to read.

I had an 'extra' Canon elph sitting around after I upgraded. It takes nice pics, but the newer one has a higher resolution. Soooo, I put it in the range bag and photograph my targets and then run the targets through "OnTarget" for groupings. Everything on an SD card. Erase them and go again. Doesn't cost me anything since I'm not sending data files through Verizon this way. OP, you might look at some entry level EOS Canons or Nikons. Depending what you need, resolution (details) you want. I use a T6i right now, but probably moving up the ladder soon.

I’ve done some filming for tv shows, and dslr hands down takes the cake for video. Most guys use them bc they are sooo much cheaper than a “video” camera, and almost zero noticeable difference. Plus they take pictures. You can scoop good dslr for 1000$ but the kicker is the lenses. I do know that buying a 2x magnifier is popular to use on multiple lenses, but you have to be careful on the light it cuts in on if you are going to be using it dusk or dawn. If you aren’t a “hunter” or not filming hunts, that may not matter. Probably can capitalize on someone else’s mistake on eBay or other classified areas.

I use B & H or Kreh. I have used Adorama, but had 2 bad experiences with them, so they are out for me.

B & H and Kreh both carry good used stuff, too. I have sold stuff to Kreh several times.

When I was looking the local Best Buy had prices just as good as the mail order stores. Might want to check that out first - sure helps with having to return anything.

Best Buy doesn't carry all the lenses you might want to pick from, but certainly most the bodies can be found there. And I would avoid the package lenses - think low end Bushnell. Get a good Nikon or Canon lense and you will be happier in the long run.

If you look at one in person, verify the shutter operations. Try not to buy the display. And research how readily available replacement batteries are.

That said, I have a Nikon and a Sony. Sony is DSLR A series. Nikon is a coolpix. Both work fine. Sony has more bells and whistles. More lens choices. Cameras have gotten cheaper over the years, that’s for sure.

My work truck camera, which I can’t remember the name takes AA batteries, which is very handy.

I’d recommend B&H. Usually best pricing.
I shot pro & used Canon 5D MK 4.
prob overkill for your needs; Canon is
great, & so are Nikon & Sony...good amount of buyers reviews on B&H site.

B&H. They have excellent customer service. With cameras, the larger the sensor, the better the image quality (usually). Adorama is also a good place to buy from. Call either place and ask someone what you need to fit your needs.

If you can get your hands on a Sony A7s ll or any of the A7 series, wait 'til it's too dark to see and turn the camera on. This is the hunting video camera to beat ALL hunting video cameras......Moonlight?? Might as well be noon in Arizona.....

What are you looking to do with the camera?

I have purchased several locally, on Craigslist.

Back in my 35mm days, I made several purchases from Cambridge Camera Exchange. They would be another option like B&H and Adorama.
