Different barrels for different events... ?

Back in the days of dinosaurs and the 222 ruled the world...

Benchrest shooters had three barrels for their benchrest rifle.

  • a light varmint barrel in 222
  • a heavy varmint barrel in 222
  • a sporter barrel in 6 x 47 (222 Rem Mag necked-up)

Now that everyone shoots a 6PPC, do the shooters still swap barrels for each event ?

How about F-class shooters when going from 600 to 1,000 yards ?

.

At Atterbury our top three F-open shooters (Hopkins, Hill, and Draggoo) all run their 284s for MR or LR.

I run separate rifles for different ranges. If I come into a large sum of money, I might consider shooting a 284 for mid-range.

Nobody swaps barrels on their ppc guns. They usually have 2 lv guns for all events that way one of em shoots and youre not limited to a class if your hv is the only one thats working. Very few hv guns anymore except the score guys that can use a 13.5lb gun

I don't know of anyone who swaps barrels, but a lot of guys shoot different rifles chambered for cartridges cheaper to load for (bullets, powder, brass life) and easier on the barrel at mid range F-Class compared with long range where one is more likely to see bigger cartridge cases loaded to higher pressures.
