Didn’t Alliant announce powder production suspension ?

Several months ago I read about Alliant suspending powder production. At least in my LGS it’s continued to be in stock and regularly I see the shelves being re-filled. Prices are astronomical but I’m surprised the stuff even exists. Has anyone heard of a change of plans by Alliant?

No. But I find it hard to get worked up over this because we have no idea what the backlog/stock is in the warehouse. If you're stopping production because it's not moving, then we don't need to be as concerned.

Based on all of the free HazMat and free shipping offers I've been seeing for months, I see no reason to worry.

My guess is 80% of shooters have a 5-10 year supply of components on hand anyway.

Conspiracy theories aside, I suspect they have limited stock and are dribbling it out in small amounts to keep prices high. Why dump everything on the market at once? It's in their interest to keep demand (and prices) high. If they had a greater supply, they'd fill the pipeline and make money on volume. Econ 101.

As an example, I saw 2400 being sold a couple days ago. Not long ago, I read it was off the table for the foreseeable future. I was on the verge of an impulsive buy, but upon reflection I have plenty to last me for a good while. Reason prevailed. Impulsive buys at high prices suit Alliant just fine.

Yes, I do believe they have and still are suspending production for the civilian market. Most online retailers only have a few Alliant powders in stock which likely are leftover/old stock/slow movers.

Alliant doesn't manufacture powder. The owner of Federal (who actually packs the powder) which distributes powder under the Alliant Name (and owned the trademark) was Vista Outdoors who was papering the sales. They canceled all orders in light of the sale of Federal to the Czechs which just happened. That sale included the trademark.

Alliant suspending powder production
There are 2 wars ongoing right now.
This is requiring lots of ammo/powder.

A few companys were sold to a different county.

Some Alliant extruded smokeless powder is/was produced at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia. All flake powders are/were produced there.

Interesting. Then, for all we know, the new owner may have placed new orders for powder.

You know it. Used to be fairly simple but with invest firms in the mix snd international ownership it can get weird GE Appliances used to be owned by General Electric. Now GE appliances are made by a Chinese company not associated GE at all. GE sold the Trademark with the appliance division.

RL16 “on sale” at MidSouth:

$419.99 ($52.50/lb) per 8-pound jug. Limit 6 per order.
