Deep penetrating pistol bullets?

I am looking for some deep penetrating pistol bullets in .40 or .44. I've read that hard cast are best for penetration but which ones and what style?

Thanks, Justin

A standard weight 44 Keith will shoot through about anything needing shot through. I've cast them for years.

I have a Colt Anaconda and 240gr cast SWC bullets but think I would prefer a semi auto. I have a Beretta 96 in .40 and have considered buying a Glock G20 in 10mm. The semi would be easier to pack and easier to make follow up shots, or at least I think it would.

My wife and I are making a trip to Idaho to visit my cousin and plan on doing a lot of hiking. He carries a 10mm.

I love my Glock 20.... Would buy another.... 10mm is awesome....

Prefer WFN designs. Meplat size determines the diameter of the wound channel when using non expanding bullets. Just about any hard cast at even the most modest of speeds will penetrate longwise completely through medium sized game.
Have taken a liking to cast hollowpoints recently, they expand reliably at very low velocities often 2x their original diameter, the shank carries a lot of weight so penetration is a non-issue.

How much "penetration" is necessary ? I load a Berry's 185gr HP , in a Glock G22 , .40 that will penetrate four inches of oak , and leave a baseball sized hole coming out , from about twenty-five yards away . Going after a Rhino ?

Keith style semi wadcutters. i did testing between pure lead,
#2 alloy, 50/50 #2 and linotype, and pure linotype. Media was
3 day soaked telephone books against my 41 Mag Black Hawk.
The harder the bullet, the deeper it went. I had no problem
going thru 4 books and still spitting dirt on the berm. Note
that the pure lead did not make it thru but made the largest
internal cavity. Pure Lino just made a straight bee line with not
alot of extra shredding. I chose the #2 alloy to give me the best
of both worlds.

FMJ round nose will penetrate further then most any thing, any thing flat nose or hollow point is going to slow down quickly, anything soft will deform and that slows it down, ask a guide in Alaska what he wants in his .44 magnum to stop bear, he will tell you the heaviest RN FMJ bullet he can get and get it over 1100 FPS

Montana Bullet Works 200gr WFN-GC Hardcast is what I'm using loaded to 1175 out of my Glock 40 MOS 10mm Long slide for dangerous game loads in the backwoods. Per the guys at MBW....they wouldn't carry anything else in 10mm to stop a bear. They told me to find an accurate load in the 1100 range and they will penetrate nicely on a bear.

Every guide I know will only carry hardcast Buffalo Bore, Underwood, Double Tap or MBW Hardcast handloads.... fmj is not breaking a brown bears shoulder/bones....

50/50 wheel weights and linotype will not deform in pure sand back stops.

Straight wheel weights with 2% Tin sure makes a beautiful bullet, darn hard also.

If you can get them, on any cast bullet over 900 fps, a gas check is a nice thing to have.

Hard is not always better.
Weight and design is best for penetration. I prefer an LBT or a Keith design. Sadly, both have turned into a generic term. Look up and read on both from the original, not someone’s opinion. They work.
Size is king period.
Two holes are better than one.
Read up on the flat nose cast design, it will break bones and disrupt more tissue than most think. Hydraulics are a bitch;-).

All of the horse power in the world does little good if the “driver” can’t control it.
I will take a heavy CB that shoots accurately and I can control, over an upper end one with a pile of recoil.

Accuracy has been really good out of this factory glock oem 10mm barrel. I have a Bar-Sto Target Match on order...just waiting for the call to send me pistol in for it to be fit.
