need load data for 44

Thanks for that insight. I have a 629 with an 8 3/8” barrel and a Ruger semi auto carbine in 44 mag. I just shot jacketed in the carbine. I shot a ton of cast bullets in the pistol, but most of those were 44 special loads for target shooting. I used commercially produced cast bullets and got a lot of leading in the barrel. I used a “cleaner” with the brass screens over a plug, that you pull thru the bore.
This was 20-25 years ago. No internet. Just the “books” for info. Seems I’ll have to re- educate myself.
That tool was a "Lewis Lead Remover" still use mine

As has already been stated in previous post. Proper bullet diameter matched to your bore is one of the biggest things that can be beneficial/detrimental to accuracy and leading/non leading. Brinell hardness and velocity can effect leading also. Usually a BH in the high teens or twenties leads less as well. Like the owner of Beartooth cast bullets explained to me about wide flat nose (WFN) bullets having the most benefit of killing and penetration due to the very wide meplat on the nose. This wide surface area typically with the harder BH do not expand but penetrate deeper but create a much greater “splash” effect while entering into an animals body than more pointed bullets resulting in an animals blood pressure to go to zero quicker. I found that IMR 4227 was one of my better performers with medium to hard cast bullets in the 357 mag and 44 mag pistols I hunted with. Usually speeds were around 1100 FPS. Still kill very well.

I have two 629’s in 4” and 8 3/8” and My favorite load is actually with a jacked bullet. W296 with a 200 XTP cooks along at almost 1500 FPS out of the 8 3/8” barrel and is phenomenally accurate.

I’ve also had a lot of success with cast bullets as well, but typically shoot lead more in my 45LC Pistol and old 94 Trapper.

My accuracy load for a 230/240 gr lead semi wadcutter in a 44Mag is 16 gr of 2400, mag primer.
For a 44 Special, it is a 200 gr lead SWC, again 16 gr of 2400.

The 44 mag load is around 1000 fps. easy to shoot, doesn't lead up the barrel, low recoil.

Bought some 220 grain cast HP for 44 special and 44 mag,but I find no load data for those bullets..Any idea or suggestion? Thanks.

Alliant and Accurate Powders web sites have some data for 220 and 225 grain cast bullets.
