Dasher powders

I am gonna be doing some testing to see if there is a better choice for my barrel then Varget. So I wanna run a ladder with Rl 15, 8208 and H4895. But I need a place to start on the 3 powders. Also if someone has another powder to try I am all ears.

I too did not have good luck with Varget in my Dasher. Start @ 31.5 with H4895, and around 32.0 with RL-15. 8208 I have not tried but looking at my QL notes start around 30.5.

here is a few i have tested my self after testing i shoot H 4350 very clean and low std one problem it is108% full must use a long drop tube. here is a few i have tested rl 15, rl 17, ramshot hunter, big game, ww 760, norma 203b, urp,h414,h380,h4350,bybrid 100, im4320,imr4895, vvn550and several others i never found any that didn't shoot good, the best 4 for me is varget, norma urp, ram shot big game,ww760 i also shoot wolf m primers .lots of fun Larry

try different primers send some information on the gun barrel length, bullets, brass, primers and anything Else will pull it up on quick load Larry

here is some place to start varget 32.gr 2965fps 57227psi
32.4 2988 5935
32.8 3019 61552
33.0 3035 62684
this depends on seateing depth after 33. watch your pressures after that and try wolf m primers increase powder or de crease to get rid of horizonal the 4 dashers i have all like to be seated back from soft touch 10 to15 thousands all our shoot are normaly won with dashers lots of luck Larry

Thats right about were I'm at right now. 32.1 of Varget about 5thou off the lands @3050. It was shooting pretty good then went to hell. I have ladders worked up with rl15, h4895 and 8208. I am gonna try 205Ms also. Probably gonna run another ladder with Varget also.

varget is a dirty powder you don't have a carbon ring i found low pressure loads
build alot of carbon most shoot 33.3 to as much as 33.7 where we shoot but watch your pressure your barrel is faster then what we find

When I ran my ladder, I got up to 33.5 and just started seeing pressure so I am not quite as hot as I can go but I am happy with the speed where I am at.

I ran 8208 and 4895 in mine.

I believe I started at 30 with both of them.

Velocity wasn't right on par with Varget from both powders, 4895 being a tick faster however even tweaking the loads I couldn't get it to shoot out at longer ranges (400+ yards) with the 4895, groups just opened up it seemed.

I didn't try 8208 past 100 as it never grouped like the other powders, which was unfortunate because it measured GREAT.

I ended up with Varget out of mine.

I started out with Varget in my 1st Dasher in 2004, then moved to Viht N150. Got a little more velocity & cleaner burning with N150, but accuracy at 600 was really excellent with both. I found myself using about a half-grain more of N150 than Varget; was running 3060-3070fps out of 30" Krieger .236"/1:8. Latest jug of N150 is faster - I've had to back off a half grain to avoid ejector swipes in my BAT 3L, even though the latest bbl. is a .237" vs. the old .236".

I sent my Dasher reamer back to PTG to have the freeebore shortened from .158" to .123", and chambered a 30" std Palma Bartlein 5R .237"/1:8 for the BAT 3L prone rifle. Not sure what's going on, but so far, I've not found a load with 105 Hybrids, VLDs, nor Lapua 105s that will shoot under 1/2 MOA at 600 with either Varget or N150. Haven't had a lot of time to focus on this rifle, as I'm working with several others at the same time I'm doing fall planting & trying to get ready for corn harvest, so don't take this post as a knock on Bartlein, Berger, or PTG.

I'm about ready to put an older Krieger back on this action, but will try more different seating depths & maybe even give RL15 a shot first. Just slightly frustrated, as I've had such good results over the past eight years with N150 in various Dashers, including another BAT 3L LR BR rifle that's currently shooting quite well with the same lot of N150 that I'm using (or trying to) in the prone BAT.

Dennis, Your freebore length is perfect . Most all the dummy rounds that have been comming in as of late have been from .112 to .128 . That has changed from the old days of .104 up . Alot of the folks that jumped from .104 out to .160 have also changed back to the .120s range. Thanks Dave.
