Dan Cooper asked to resign

Status
Not open for further replies.
According to the websight, the employees, Board of Directors and shareholders have asked for the resignation of Dan Cooper. I hope this small manufacturer of fine rifles can survive this situation.

Here's my take on things, now anyway...

If Dan Cooper is truly out of there then let's all continue to support this fine AMERICAN firearms factory. Nothing has yet changed their quality and commitment to all of us. If they go under who really benefits, not us, but scumbag ObombUS. That's just what the anti's want. So think about this before letting our emotions override our best judgment. After all, we are fighting for survival again. So please, consider the consequences here, let's all support what's left only if Dan Cooper is truly gone. But, if he's not out, then let Supply and Demand run its course. Fine rifles, fine employees, and one of the few fine gun companies left for us. So my thoughts now are to rally behind those left behind having to strive to run the factory business and cope with a stressful 'damage control mode' almost hourly and really working hard doing what's right for us. So folks, let's save one of our finest American Icons for awhile longer. DO NOT let ObombUS win, and he will if we let them!!!

Well said Tom ! I can get as wound up on an issue as anyone but I think what you are saying has a lot of merit.

Rodney

Here's the email reply I received in response to the email I sent them, in which I expressed my concern for their employees and my outrage at Dan Cooper's support of Obama:

--------------------------------
In response to the recent article highlighting Dan Cooper’s personal political donations, the board of directors, shareholders and employees of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc would like to issue the following statement.

The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper.

Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than just Mr. Cooper. It may also affect the employees and the shareholders of Cooper Firearms.

The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc.

Daily operations will continue with the competent staff currently in place in Stevensville, MT producing the finest, most accurate rifles money can buy.

Dan Cooper has spent all of his working life producing the highest quality rifles built here in the USA. He started with nothing but the American Dream and built that into firearms company anyone would be proud of. We firmly believe Dan stands by the 2nd amendment.

We wish him all of the best in his future pursuits.
------------------------

So, if this is true, Cooper Arms deserves further consideration for your firearms business. On the other hand, Dan Cooper is likely the biggest shareholder, and thus would personally benefit by any continued success that Cooper Arms might attain.

This makes for a tough situation for this manufacturer and socially/politically aware consumers.

Regardless, Dan Cooper seems exceedingly foolish, and has put his company in jeopardy. Maybe he's getting sentimental and weak as he ages, in a mid-life crisis sort of episode. I get that, but I will NEVER understand how any sane, responsible, moral person can think that undermining the Constitution and espousing socialism is anything but evil. And this is what the Democrats represent. So do the Republicans, but to a lesser extent. Sigh...

Good people, unite. Fight the good fight.

Where does it go from here?
Do you divorce your wife because she chooses to support something you don't?
Disown your children when they make their own decisions?
Refuse to support other members because they have a different opinion?
Stop attending matches because there is a number of shooters that choose to support someone you hate?
How surprised many of you would be to find that many of the companies you deal with and purchase from in Benchrest goodies are supporting the candidate you despise. What will you do? Stop buying from them also because they choose to use their own judgement rather than yours?
All this talk about the damage that will be caused by Obama is nothing more than speculation. No one knows what is going to happen until they see it. If in fact Dan Cooper is forced to resign, it will be at that point that I will never buy another new Cooper rifle. Be sure and tell your boss and the manufacturer of everything you own, that if they support Obama, you will sell everything, quit your job, and go live in a cave.

JRS, If my livelihood is endangered by a person's proven track record ... do I REALLY want to associate myself with that person ?
NO. This same situation came up back during the Bush/Gore election when it was revealed that Tim Leatherman,LEATHERMAN TOOLS) donated & supported Gore due to his "Green" policies. I dumped all my Leatherman and went to SOG equipment and I lost count of how many SOG tools I sent to troops going overseas.
Ditto on RUGER ... when William Ruger made the statement that "Civilians" didn't need more than 10 rounds I got rid of my Rugers and have never looked back.

Not only can I vote on a ballot but I can also vote / show my approval with my wallet !

Dan Cooper certainly isn't endangering anyones "livelihood".
It's amazing how a handful of people are willing to boycott an American made firearms company who employs American workers, bad mouth the founder, and threaten to tell everyone not to deal with them, yet have no problem buying most of their purchases "made in China" thereby supporting a COMMUNIST COUNTRY. While you're at it, don't forget to punish Russ Haydon and the other generous contributors to our sport who sell Cooper firearms. Amazing!!!!!

JRS, it's only because it works. Is S&W now not a big contributor to the sport? Can we now not buy hi-cap Ruger brand magazines? Is Colt now not responding to the civilian market with new models and options?

We can all vote - with our feet and with our dollars.

Actions have consequences. Sometimes there is collateral damage. But the principles are worth fighting for in spite of the collateral damage.

At least in my opinion.

My wife, children, and other shooters have not advocated restricting my gun owning rights or making it harder and more
expensive to purchase guns and reloading supplies, and advocating closing down gun shows. With your outlook I hope you are not a serious competitive shooter or hunter, because if the Dem's take over the Whitehouse and congress with a veto proof majority then you along with the rest of us may be legislated out of a sport that we all take very dear. That's why most of us are so vocal about our opposition to the Dem's and refuse to spend our hard earned, soon to be spread to those who don't work that hard) $$$ at any business, or business owner who supports Obama or the Dem's.

And what better way to tell half the population that they’re not welcome to join us at the range or in the field.

Badlands,
I am not Dan Cooper, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all to be his friend. I was stating the obvious which apparently went way over your head.

Here's a USA Today article about Coopers resignation.

What goes over your head is that there are CONSEQUENCES to actions. People must be held ACCOUNTABLE when they act irresponsibly. If someone chooses to smoke, that's their prerogative. But they cannot smoke in MY house, nor in MY restaurant, nor do I choose to be around them anywhere when they smoke.

Dan Cooper chooses to support a liberal who has never done anything but pander to people who don't want to be held accountable, because the GOVERNMENT will take care of them. Obama, like most Democrats, thinks that the people work for the Government, and the Government will decide what is best for the people and how much of the money the people earn stays in the pockets of those who earn it.

It is the right of a free society to oppose such power-mongers. It is the DUTY of an American to oppose such government infringement of liberty. Liberals hate personal responsibility. Conservatives and Libertarians promote personal responsibility. Dan Cooper chooses to support Obama, who is a Liberal's wet dream. We oppose Obama, so we can boycott Dan Cooper's enterprise. It's call freedom. I know you hate the concept, but you'll have to read your Patrick Henry history to know how much right-minded people value freedom.

Liberals are tolerant only of those who think like they do. The left is a hateful, intolerant, bigoted bunch of whiners, who want to blame things instead of people, who want to abort innocent babies but oppose capital punishment for serial murderers/kidnappers/rapists. Liberals want everybody to look different but act the same. Groupthink. Fascism.

But you're in a union. You part of a collective, who march in lock step, rather than being a strong individual. You ASSume the boss is going to screw you over, so you have to unionize. The biggest screw job comes from your Democrat "leaders", pal. Lick the hand that feeds you.

Nobama. Never.

What BS. I suppose the Liberals are concerned that half of the population isn't welcome at movies, or Grateful Dead concerts, or Whole Foods or EBay.

Conservatives are tolerant of other viewpoints, provided that those who espouse the other views don't try to impose them on us. That's what separates the Conservatives from the Liberals.

If you don't want to own/use an AR-15 with a 30 round magazine, then don't. That's cool.

Liberals don't want you to have that choice. Or any other choice that they don't support. And yet they're supposedly 'Pro-Choice'. Which they are, when it comes to killing their unborn babies. Such hypocrisy. Such insanity. Such evil.

I stopped a store I usually frequent quite often. It's a small food store in a small Iowa town off of 218. I got of the highway, parked and went to go buy my usual stock up.

Got to the front door and froze. They had a big "Vote Obama" sign stuck in the door and vote Obama/Biden stickers all over the place. I turned around, got in my car and left.

I won't be going back.

Again, it's their choice. But when you start espousing your politics publicly and tying them to your business, you had better be sure who your customer base is. You piss them off, you are out of luck.

I will not knowingly put money into the coffers of someone who will give it to the people that want to impinge on my rights. To heck with that.

usngunner: I think you summed up the situation nicely:

"Again, it's their choice. But when you start espousing your politics publicly and tying them to your business, you had better be sure who your customer base is. You piss them off, you are out of luck."

Mr. Cooper's actions indicated a complete disregard for the opinion/beliefs of his customer base. His right to do so, but he also must bear the consequences.

usngunner: Absolutely correct: they chose to air their political views, and influence the way their customers vote,, they are, in effect, campaigning for "him"), so we/you & I have every right to choose not to make any purchases from them. That's our "freedom of choice", at least for a little while longer. We are headed for a Socialist/Marxist government, and few seem to care: "gee, I wonder what Oprah will be talking about today".

In defence of Dan Cooper's right to support and contribute to the candidate of his choice without economic and political retribution.

Everyone on this site routinely exercises their 2nd Ammendment rights. When Dan Cooper exercised his rights, he was ex-communicated from the community. I see a disturbing hypocrisy here that may not be obvious to some. Whether or not you agree with his choice in candidate's, it was fundamentally wrong to go after him the way certain individuals did.

In pre World War ll Germany, anyone who opposed Hitler was ridiculed and shouted down by the Brown Shirts. Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.

By the way, I don't own any Coopers, am a member of the NRA, and am voting for McCain. This will save many who disagree with my opinion by resorting to name calling.

Everyone has an opinion as everyone has a choice who to buy from.
