CZ 527 Input Needed

I think I saw in one of your other posts that you already have a .223? If so, I'd forego the .222 and go with the .17 Hornet. With either the .222 or the .17 hornet, brass choices aren't as generous as the .223, but that little .17 hornet is a neat (and accurate) little cartridge. Mine is in a CZ527 with a Lilja barrel. Very sweet little gun. Almost no recoil, milder report - and only burns about 10-11 grains of powder.

I have a 527 lux in 223 and been contemplating if I should make something else out of it. Picked it up from original owner for 350 and drove 1 hour drive and and back like a little kid with a new toy lol.
Since then I got a 204 Kevlar varmint and had pac nor barrel put on it. I absolutely love it.
Only thing is I need to find a new extractor for the 204 as the original owner neglected it. Anyone know where to source one?

We visited Prague a couple of times last year and the CZ shop carries a good amount of spares . I bought an extractor, 2×collars and a pair of action screws , just in case . They won't ship to the UK but they may to the USA , I think they stopped when we left the EU . I could be wrong though .
Might be worth an email, I'd include the serial number .

A buddy of mine picked up a CZ 527 Kevlar varmint model in 223 with a Burris 6.5-20 scope on it for a decent price. We shot it before pulling the barrel and it was wicked accurate. Now it's a 17 FB and he's thrilled. It will go to the PD fields next summer with a Bob Sled.

Before you buy a Howa you should try one out in the store. The action is not very smooth (and this is from a Savage person ). I took a stone to the receiver and bolt to smooth it up a lot. The stock trigger is heavy but clipping the spring helps immensely. The barrel meets their MOA spec, but, not much more. Mine will get a new barrel as soon as I have some available funds. That also brings up that the barrel threads are metric so some providers will not support them. Replacement triggers also a bit more difficult to find.

I do like the strength of the action and feeding from the internal magazine has been great. For the cost it has been a good rifle for me, but, I'd probably not choose one again.

This thread has lapsed for a while - but after reading it, I thought I'd comment on the prices being asked for a CZ527 (.17 Hornet) these days - at $1,000 +/-. To me, that doesn't really sound too outlandish, given what these rifles were selling for ten years ago. I bought mine for $725.00 + tax, etc. back in January 2015. It was a great shooter with Hornady factory ammo (both leaded and lead-free V-max ammo), as well as my handloads. I liked it enough to eventually put a Lilja barrel on it, a HS Precision graphite stock, bed it, etc. It turned out more accurate that I realistically hoped. I have a friend on the hunt for a used one to do the same. While they are running almost 40% higher than a new one - just look at how much most other rifles have gone up. If I could find one with an abused barrel or stock looks like crap and the price reflecting it - I'd do it again, this time buying used.

You might want to keep an eye out for deals on .17 Hornet brass or those selling on this site. It is expensive (compared to, say, .223 brass) given how small those cases are. Only for that reason, I use my 20P a lot more. I only have about 800 pieces of the .17H brass and you know how fast that goes on a rat hunt.

Ive had six over the years and all six, 22 Hornet two of them, 17 Hornet, 221, 223, and a 17 Remington, were super accurate. I was very disappointed win CZ discontinued them

I love the 527! I needed a break from the .338's and .50's I was building, and sought refuge in wee cartridges, and the 527 was the answer. I ended up collecting a bunch, not to mention 452/453/455 and 457's, in 17 HH varmint, .204 Ruger varmint, .221 FB American, .222 Varmint, .223 Full Stock, .223 Ebony, .223 LH American now a 1-7 bull in a Boyds PV, 6.5 Grendel MTR and a 6.5 Grendel American I converted to a .22 ARC 1-7 bull just recently. It's sad they discontinued them, I might look for a couple of .223 and 7.62x39's just for donor actions for future builds.

My Wife has one in 17 Hornet. It shoots very well with CFE BLK and the 20gr VMax. It shoots even better with a single shot follower ( can find on eBay for $20 or so). The magazines are a bit restrictive on loaded cartridge length, but the single shot follower allows for a longer seating length. The hard part is finding one that runs less than $1200 now.

Send your magazines to James Calhoon and trade them out for modified magazines. We have a couple dozen and had them all modified. I haven’t seen a 527 in 17 or 22 Hornet that shot nearly as well with short loaded ammo as ammo that is too long for factory magazines.

I have an early, 1992 527, in 222 Remington, a 22 Hornet American, a 17 Hornet Varmint in HS Precision Kevlar stock, a 204 American, a 204 Varmint barreled action that I need a 223/204 trigger guard for, and also have a very nice 22 PPC Varmint profile barrel, Russian bolt and trigger guard and magazines for, but need a receiver or action and I’m short a couple magazine catches. The ones that are together all shoot extremely well. I’ve got a few orphan bolts, new take off barrels and triggers. I’m a fan.

The Howa mini is just as good for rimless cartridges, but won’t work for Hornets. I bought a couple for $315 from Cabela’s and stripped them for the actions and built varmint rifles on them.

I’ve got Sako (H&R Ultra Wildcat) and BRNO ZKW 465 too. They are great. I’m not a fan of the Ruger or Savage.

If I were looking for a Hornet today, I’d probably go with a Contender carbine with MGM or EABco barrel. We have one 23” heavy barrel and one 21” tapered barrel in 17 Hornet. They are both every bit as accurate as anything out there. The heavy barrel is the way to go. It balances and caries so nicely.

As a 527 owner, I agree with most of the sentiments above. They were great little rifles for the price, but nowhere near what they sell for these days. Of course, I won’t be selling mine anything soon…..lol. I have thought about offloading a 550 Varmint Kevlar in 22-250 though.

I don't know understand the hoopla over 527's, maybe the Hornet but I ld rather spend less money on a small Sako and a lot less money on a Howa Mini.

They were a decent enough little rifle but for me the only place the 527's really shined was with the Hornet which is probably why the only 527's I still have are my 17HH's.

I've got 2 527 varmint models. A .223 with 1:12 and a 6.5 grendel I traded my 17hornet for and don't regret it. I'm probably gonna cut my .223 down and chamber for 221 fireball but I wish I could find some more actions to build on.
I have a 6arc howa mini and definly prefer the 527. I've been looking for a nice Sako Vixen to to build a 221 but I've never handled one so hesitant to spend the money on one.
