Custom actions vs. Savage actions ;D

I can tell you this, I wish I spent the money years ago on custom actions and used a good gun smith
But the way you did it is the way most people with the custom rifles started, they started with a factory rifle and worked up. There would be nothing worse than to start at the high dollar custom level only to realize that this sport is not for me. Whether it is rifles, archery, fishing or whatever most people start at a entry level and work up to a point where they are satisfied with what they have. Whether it is limited by money, time or interest people will find that level of satisfaction they are able to obtain and hopefully be happy.

I have noticed that one of the problems is that some of the Savage owners who are happy with what they have get defensive of their Savage because others try to convince them that they will never be happy or do well if they do not invest in better and more expensive equipment.

If i was to realize that this sport is not for me, I would still enjoy the accuracy and function of a custom action. Everyone has to weigh there options for themselves..I know that whether I like competition shooting or not I will be shooting one way or another...

Think everyone at the end of the day has to have fun with this sort. If you have fun with a $500 action vs $1200 action. And for beginners could we really tell the difference on paper from one action to another? Accuracy is all about in my opinion the following order:1) the shooter 2) barrel 3) bullets 4) reloading technique. Everything else is convenience factor(stock, action, adjustable hardware, fancy joystick tests, etc) This is my opinion only

Top level shooter and gunsmith says it's all about BARREL and BULLETS

Agreed. I don't see any Savage owners saying they would pick the Savage if the custom was the same price (and don't forget to include the price of trigger, since it is included with a PTA). It is silly to say a Savage is as good overall as a custom and I don't believe any Savage owners are saying that either. But Savages can compete (especially at mid and long range) and that has been proven.

It is funny, but the custom action owners are always the ones that start this discussion. Someone can ask a question about a Savage and will get a few answers, then some custom action owner has to chime in and start bashing Savages. For the most part, Savage owners are defending their purchase (which is a natural thing to do), not announcing that their Savage is better than the customs.

The main thing that gets my ire is someone bashing what someone else has spent their hard earned money on. A few (and thankfully, just a few) custom action owners feel they have to bash Savages. I guess they have to justify to themselves why they spent so much money on their custom.

Couldn't have said it better myself Bill.

Nah, it just is an entertaining way to while away these long winters......+ are you suggesting that the custom owners money wasn't "hard earned"? Could be some of us sacrificed more in order to afford them.
If we have to worry about hurt feelings, maybe they should hold matches that don't keep score .....then everyone will be a weiner. :o

I am at the age where what other people think matters less to me than how much my testicles itch that day.

It's a good place to be.

;D LMAO !

I think that is why this argument keeps popping up, eventually you will get someone saying that Savage is as every bit as good and they have no reason to purchase a custom..I agree Savage is doing a fine job building for the shooter..They have come leaps and bounds, But I would make a large wager that if you slapped a custom down next to a Savage and said take your pick the Savage wouldn't be so popular

The best statement yet! Savage i think is a great factory action, but no it is not as good as a full custom. I think accuracy potentitial is not the real issue, but things such as reliability (trigger), creature comforts (bolt smoothness) play a huge portion in te game

LHSmith, I shouldn't even respond to such ridiculous statements as you have made, but I will.

I never said nor even suggested that custom owners money wasn't "hard earned". I own both a custom and a Savage - and both were bought with "hard earned" money. And since I own both, I can see both sides. I have owned cheap scopes, cheap dies, and cheap other stuff. There is also a barrel manufacturer that will never see another penny of my money. But you won't see me bashing any products because it just isn't the right thing to do. You can call it hurt feelings if you want. But I prefer to call it respect for my fellow shooters - fellow human beings.

When I see BS, I am going to call it out, label it however you will. When someone asks for opinions on a product that I have first hand experience, I will offer one whether good or bad............and just so you know....my experiences with Savage have left me unimpressed.
My posts in this thread ,which was based on humor, were just that.
