But the way you did it is the way most people with the custom rifles started, they started with a factory rifle and worked up. There would be nothing worse than to start at the high dollar custom level only to realize that this sport is not for me. Whether it is rifles, archery, fishing or whatever most people start at a entry level and work up to a point where they are satisfied with what they have. Whether it is limited by money, time or interest people will find that level of satisfaction they are able to obtain and hopefully be happy.raythemanroe said:I can tell you this, I wish I spent the money years ago on custom actions and used a good gun smith

Agreed. I don't see any Savage owners saying they would pick the Savage if the custom was the same price (and don't forget to include the price of trigger, since it is included with a PTA). It is silly to say a Savage is as good overall as a custom and I don't believe any Savage owners are saying that either. But Savages can compete (especially at mid and long range) and that has been proven.
It is funny, but the custom action owners are always the ones that start this discussion. Someone can ask a question about a Savage and will get a few answers, then some custom action owner has to chime in and start bashing Savages. For the most part, Savage owners are defending their purchase (which is a natural thing to do), not announcing that their Savage is better than the customs.
The main thing that gets my ire is someone bashing what someone else has spent their hard earned money on. A few (and thankfully, just a few) custom action owners feel they have to bash Savages. I guess they have to justify to themselves why they spent so much money on their custom.

It's a good place to be.
raythemanroe said:I think that is why this argument keeps popping up, eventually you will get someone saying that Savage is as every bit as good and they have no reason to purchase a custom..I agree Savage is doing a fine job building for the shooter..They have come leaps and bounds, But I would make a large wager that if you slapped a custom down next to a Savage and said take your pick the Savage wouldn't be so popular
LHSmith, I shouldn't even respond to such ridiculous statements as you have made, but I will.LHSmith said:Nomad47 said:The main thing that gets my ire is someone bashing what someone else has spent their hard earned money on. Nah, it just is an entertaining way to while away these long winters......+ are you suggesting that the custom owners money wasn't "hard earned"? Could be some of us sacrificed more in order to afford them.
If we have to worry about hurt feelings, maybe they should hold matches that don't keep score .....then everyone will be a weiner.![]()
