Current top 2 or 3 f-open scopes

Of the scopes I own, the sane choice for someone who doesn't want to just blow money is the Nightforce BR. It does the job very well for a relatively low price tag. The Nightforce Competition is a little nicer, and a lot more expensive, but not without some tradeoffs - the objective is smaller and the magnification higher, which makes for some tricky eye box shenanigans at high power. I find I use mine around 42X most of the time, which is coincidentally the top end of the Nightforce BR. I do like the FCR-1 reticle on the comp, and the turrets are better.

I also just pulled the trigger on a Kahles K1050, but haven't shot it yet. The turret mechanics are amazing. Love the reticle - it's similar to the FCR-1, but with a dot in the center. The glass is mediocre, but that doesn't bother me. The price tag is beyond silly. But the turrets are a work of art. If you can accidentally be at the wrong elevation with these, you're beyond help.

This is all ignoring the black art of testing POI changes. See Alex Wheeler's post above on which ones *tend* to pass tests well. There was a big flap a while back about NF comps not doing well in that department. I don't believe mine has that issue - I've been able to shoot some very small groups with it. But it is a consideration.

Bottom line is that I doubt a $400 sightron 36X would hold back anyone who isn't consistently in the top tier at nationals. (Great scope, by the way, for those on a budget)

If you’ll look at the equipment list that was just posted for SWN, I think you find the answer to your questions. Beside the fact that Nightforce is a HUGE supporter of our shooting sports, they make a great scope. Top shooters can choose any scope they want and 3/4 of them pick Nightforce. As stated, the Comp eye relief at high power is a little small, but your glass stays clear and bright, while others do not at high power setting. No scope is perfect, but Nightforce checks a lot of boxes.

5 out of the top 10 used Kahles K1050's hmmm. (I know Cristine Harris did even though its not listed).

She didn't bother to fill out the equipment list. In fact none of the Harris clan did. That is why there is nothing there. It is sad because on accurate shooter they are the biggest proponent of equipment list's but when it comes to the Desert Sharpshooters they don't bother. I wonder why????

I notice a few Golden Eagles riding on top notch rigs. I'm sure several of these people are sponsored by Vortex, but I highly doubt anyone would use a scope (even for free) if they though it would cost them even a single point under any conceivable condition. Nobody is going to travel to national competitions and go seriously into this sport and try to save $2000 on a scope that might drop them 15-20 places with a point or two. A top shooter will spend nearly that amount in one or two weekends just to travel and compete.

I was very surprised to be on the line last Saturday next to a GE, but a much more competitive setup-- Kelbly's, Brux, SEB, etc. You get the idea.

The other top-shelf shooter near our point was Ellis Berry using a NF Competition. Ellis Berry put on a show agging a 589.23x in some truly challenging winds. Not only was he the top FTR, he was the top F-class in general for the 3,5,6, and beat the 2nd place F-open competitor by 5 points and 3Xs.
