F Class Tracking Rails or Flat fore end

Building/ordering new F Open stock, first open rifle for me. Tracking rails or flat tracking surface on foreend, Opinions?

Who makes those types of stocks ? It would figure since I already ordered a McMillian Tooley MBR !! For trying both F-class and Long BR.
Thanx again,
Rmist

if you run rails you will not want to use a flat on the same front bag as they tend to get a high spot, so switching back to a flat causes some rocking side to side effect. But once you run the rails you will want them on all your guns.

It's much easier on laminates but the MBR can be cut and sealed.
Most stock makers offer it as an option.

Thanks for the opinions, leaning towards rails. Is there a special front rest bag for rails or do they become custom with use?

Yes, and Jim's stocks are high quality.

Will McMillan do it? I haven't called to ask.

I don't think so, but don't know for sure.

Rails are a good, but not the only, way to go. If you have a Farley Rest, Edgewood makes an extra hard reinforced front bag that stubbornly resists deformation. I fill my front bag with crushed walnut shells and it works very well with the flat surfaces on my stocks. I shoot with Manners F-Class stocks and Shehane Trackers, all flat undersides.

You don't want deep grooves in the bag. Any quality bag will work.
I use an Edgewood reinforced front bag.
