The World Health Organisation has backflipped on its original COVID-19 stance after calling for world leaders to stop locking down their countries and economies. Dr. David Nabarro from the WHO appealed to world leaders yesterday, telling them to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” of the coronavirus.

He also claimed that the only thing lockdowns achieved was poverty – with no mention of the potential lives saved. “Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said.

Honestly, masks and social distancing are probably sufficient if the general public was actually trained properly and followed the protocols carefully. How many times have you seen someone walk right next to another person out of habit or without thinking about it, even when there was adequate room to maintain a distance? Or how about stand directly behind someone in line breathing down their neck, instead of staying back? It's not hard, but it takes active participation to break those habits and not just auto-piloting through the daily routine.

I also think most of the populace needs some real education about masks. Starting with mask function and selection. I'm talking about picking real masks designed for the purpose you're using them for. Not using worthless t-shirt material decorative pieces that do nothing to stop small airborne particulate and restrict airflow more than a real mask does. Everyone needs to be trained how to fit a mask and how to put it on and take it off correctly. I see people regularly reaching under their mask to scratch their nose, pulling the mask down to talk to someone, pulling the mask aside to sneeze! Or more subtly, taking the mask off by placing their un-sanitized hands inside the mask and then putting the mask on the table, face-contacting side down. These kinds of behaviors drastically reduce the effectiveness of mask wearing because they are constantly bypassing the seal and contaminating the mask in some fashion. That's how everyone is getting COVID, even though they "wore a mask and social distanced"

Of course it's different, but a lot of the ones dying from it likely wouldn't have died if they hadn't contacted it. Or have died so soon from the condition/s that they had. Obviously a lot of healthy people get it and are asymptomatic and get over it. A lot of the vulnerable people got killed off early and many have wised up. But they still have lives to live and shouldn't have to go out and take care of business among a bunch of yayhoos who think that they're invincible and just keep putting others at risk. Still there are likely a lot of people with health issues that are vulnerable.

My point is not that the virus has not killed and Im not trying to minimalism it. My point is that shutting down a country, putting people out of work, destroying lives is a VERY serious thing to do and its very hard to justify it with junk statistics. If you want to ruin the greatest economy in recent times and destroy lives you better have real numbers. Why is there monetary incentive to put covid on a death certificate? Why is it that when its flu season the DR. says you probably just have the flu, drink liquids and get some rest. But with covid you must be tested, even though both have no cure? Money and political gain.

recall our earlier conversation re aligning events FL vs NY. I just kept the same chart. Deaths are still running at 6x NY at its equivalent point. I'd expect the rate to fall further for a bit more and then turn upwards again.

To be fair, this virus does transmit readily before any symptoms, if any, appear. That's what spooked the health czars. But there's no denying full political and rent-seeking advantage has been exploited to the max.

Best post in quite some time. Bogus numbers, bogus testing, and it goes on and on. Facts from the experts changing with the wind. There was just another person that died from the coronavirus in my county last weekend. She was 90. We are now up to 2 dead since it all started. The first was 83. 2 dead in my county is not bogus numbers. Statistics are, can be, and will be manipulated....Baaaaaaa......

I wonder if the $13k-39k the hospitals get for a covid death has any influence on the numbers? Dying with covid is different than dying from it.

In all fairness and in the interest of objectivity. Huh ? I have full medical coverage through Blue Shield. Paid by my pension. UC Davis here in CA. If I get Wuhan'd go to the ICU and die. I dont think UCD gets a dime from the Fed.gov. If one is on medicare, it may be different. Can you elaborate ? I consider this thread and forum to be a great place of discovery. I do not know what the national protocol is but locally you must be exposed to an infected person for a minimum of 15 minutes to be required to take action. 14 minutes carry on as usual. 15 and you must quarantine. I am not claiming to be an expert but something does not smell right.

It probably hadn't been established what it took medically to treat someone with COVID so they offered a more generous payment which in all reality likely fell short of what it cost the hospitals to treat.

Sure, the flu and other viruses can have long term ramifications. The fact they may or may not have known what it would take to treat covid does not change the fact you get paid to claim covid on a death certificate. That drastically effects the numbers no matter how you look at it. Would we be better off or not? That I can not answer for sure. Hindsight is always 20/20 and at this point I do think we would be better off if we would not have shut anything down. But thats just my opinion, no one knows for sure.
