This virus is nothing compared to the Spanish flu that Started in January of 1918 and ended in December of 1920. It infected 500 Million people and death estimates were between 17-50 million people.

The WHO needs to bolstered with more funds not less.
I’m having difficulty finding the actual NIH pronouncement you are referring to. Can you post the link? There's also a clinical trial beginning in Germany. With luck we will have a vaccine in 12-18 months. Gates is right that investment in production facilities needs to start now.
Here's a research report from Morgan Stanley that was released in early April and provides a good overview of potential treatments and their status. I'm sure everyone saw that the US National Institute of Health has recently warned people not to take the hydroxychloroquine / azithromycin combo touted by Donald due to its possible toxicity.
The second report contains key takeaways from MS's latest discussion a couple of days ago on COVID 19 with Dr Adalja of Johns Hopkins University. Note the uncertainty around the efficacy of current antibody testing which remains woefully low in the US (and elsewhere such as the UK) but is slowly being ramped up. Extensive antibody testing is a key pre-condition to getting the economy back up and running.
I wanted to post a third report which covers their modeling of infections in the US as it is very good work. However the file is too large. I will post a link to it later.
Perhaps, but those funds ought not be tied to having influence over how or where they operate.
China’s ‘investments’ in Ethiopia put the current WHO director directly under their thumb. His ‘goodwill‘ towards China endangered the entire world.

Also, could you post a link to the clinical VA study that is becoming a media star??
Is the same WHO who spread PRC lies about the virus? And had we not learnt from that and other viruses since this could well have been the same. The WHO needs to bolstered with more funds not less.

Key conclusion: "The performance of current LFIA devices is inadequate for most individual patient applications."
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/04/will-there-be-a-coronavirus-vaccine-maybe-not.htmlI'm more bullish on our scientists and doctors. While the virus is likely endemic, meaning it isn't going away, and we're an extremely long way from percentage infection rates to reach "herd immunity" (60-80%) and a vaccine isn't likely to be in wide circulation before the summer of 2021 (I do think we will get one) a lot of lives can be saved if the burden of infection is flattened and health systems not overrun. As I've said a few times, expect to get it - especially if you flaunt commonsense - and if you are "high-risk" take extra precautions. (If you do want to flaunt commonsense please offer your services to Smithfield in South Dakota 'cos I do like a bit of bacon in the mornings.) There economy will be reopened long before the virus is gone but when the burden of infection is more acceptable.
Stop drinking the blame deflection coolaid. Supranational organizations are needed to fight and prepare for pandemics. The WHO is the only one we have. Is it perfect? No. Have they warned about an event such as this for many years? Yes. Should we invest in it to make it better? Yes.
