Many people were masked up even though it offers you little to no protection.
I should have worn my urban biking mask:
In the ER, regular surgical masks are recommended in close quarters (less than 6ft away for 10min or greater) unless droplets are aerosolized (swabbing, breathing treatments, vent, bipap, intubation, etc...). So, it does offer protection for them IF WORN CORRECTLY. Your beard prevents that mask from making a proper seal, just as an aside.
As always, wash your hands and don't freak out.
