Corona virus delivered to your door?

I hear ya.

Was in Walmart at Beaufort SC a while ago....no TP, water was 2 to a person,
no hand cleaner, etc. Flu was so bad here this year that the hospital was full and visitation shut down...but no school or public event closures or toilet paper runs. Now we have Corona-19, no cases here, and it is just hysteria on parade.

Bernie followers are probably having orgasms just thinking about the possibilities.

Most likely you'll get it. Most likely you'll be fine. Many won't be. Currently it is early days in the US - a mere 1,663 recorded cases and only 40 dead. 2.4%. Now imagine if the same number of people who get the flu get Covid 19 which is not at all unlikely given its transmission and symptom pattern. Do the math.

Better to just get it over with. Like the measles and mumps in the old days. Once you know one person with it, gather everyone else around and place them all in the same room. A few weeks later you'd have some good statistical info.

Really bad assumptions.

"Most likely you'll get it." - I doubt that, there is nothing that predicts that as far as I know.
"...imagine IF the same number of people who get the flu get Covid 19..." - why should we imagine that? What makes you ASSUME that this will happen?

Post the facts that prove that your ASSUMPTIONS are correct so that we can be better informed.

One of big issues driving market volatility right now is the price war between the Saudis and Russia. It is being very under reported because of the Corona insanity and anti-Trump craziness.

Bottom line is China is buying tons of oil at bargain basement prices while Americans are making runs on toilet paper. Does this tell us anything about what a lot Americans may be full of?

Imagine whatever you want. The characteristics of this virus suggest the possibility of very high infection rates. It is sobering to hear that, for example, the Chief Medical Officer for the United Kingdom talked last week of the possibility of between 60% and 80% of the population contracting the virus. Now he is quick to indicate that he thinks 80% is "the absolute top end of the range of the population that would get infected". He goes on to say:

"Our expectations, certainly my expectation, is that it will be less than that and probably a lot less than that. And there well may be a lot of people, we don’t know yet, who get this infection without any symptoms at all.

"But it is important that we plan for the worst that is currently plausible."

However, it is clear these experts are not thinking it appropriate, based on what we know today, to think in terms of fractions of one per cent or a few per cent for the likely infection rate. (BTW, a 1% mortality rate on 80% of the UK population is 531,000 people.)

So yeah I do think based on current trends and expert opinions that there's a pretty good chance of infection and, again, that all but a small percentage will be fine. But even low mortality percentages applied to high infection rates yield some ugly numbers. We shall see. Hopefully we don't end up there.

Worked with a guy that bought a bidet the year I retired. He said he didn't use a roll of toilet paper a month. There's always that option. He said his is heated and he wished he bought one years ago. I think I'll stick to leaves if TP disappears. I'm happy being a camper.

I guess I'm going to die. Just opened some boxes that came today FedEx with ammo for the new Kimber Camp Guard I picked up last night at Cabela's. Nice to live in a state where you can go in and walk out with a handgun with out having to have NICS run or a waiting period (CCW holder), just fill out the 4473. Now to get out and live fire it, went with me walking the dog today. Didn't have to fend off any coyotes or bears!:D

"We are shipping as fast as we can! News regarding COVID-19 is causing an unexpected surge in demand. Please note the estimated delivery dates which are accurate based on the information we have. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Thanks!"

Comparing the statistics for other countries with the U.S. and a buck and a quarter will get you a cup of joe at the local quickie mart.
They didn't get their act together and shut down everything soon enough and their health care systems were overwhelmed. Italy is the prime example. They are now picking and choosing who lives and who dies.

I'm almost 68 and the wife is 62 with diabetes plus had 6 months of chemo last year. That puts us at a higher risk. We picked up out last order of food from WallyWorld (ordered online, picked up outside), set up a CVS drive through for prescriptions so we shouldn't have to venture out for at least 2-3months. We plan to stay at home and ride it out. Plenty of food, a well, a generator, over 75 gallons of gasoline plus both vehicles are full. Hopefully neither of us is infected at this point. Some people may say it's silly but if it's gets bad, it's not, and if it doesn't, we'll have a good laugh sometime in the future. I pray that this blows over and doesn't hit the numbers they say is possible.

Everyone stay safe!
