Good! It's about time. Now they need to allow access to ALL the LAND LOCKED BLM!! That's what really bust my chops...All that land we pay for, that we aren't even able to access. Theres is so much checker board in EO that would have some great hunting. Its BS...

In my own opinion, both are at fault and know what they're doing. Doesn't matter either way, we're still the ones getting bent over on the deal...

There's a spot 10 miles from my house that I could easily bust a 30"+ monster muley every year on BLM. However, you guessed it, all land locked and private. Absolutely no access.

I'm sure nobody alive today who owns land that is in that situation had anything to do with what the gov did in the 1800's.
Like it or not the Gov created the situation the ranchers may or may not have taken advantage of the situation people take advantage of situations all the time, like I said I bet 99.9% of the people who are complaining about it if they could trade places they would in a heart beat.
One other side note the Gov bends us over all the time.
I look at this on both sides of the coin, do I like it? No! but up untill about 3 years ago I got sick of people dumping trash, beer cans, driving around a Kelly humped road ( walk in only) etc. after I let him retrieve game so I got sick of it and locked it down my land down.

If the SC takes this up and rules against Freddy, this will be binding on the whole country and Freddy is going to have a whole lot of pissed off landowners out there who were previously "safe". As I said before, this is a bad set of facts for Freddy to win with and being an a'hole isn't helping the cause.
 
what I dont understand is how he can claim if its is upheld as legal that it is taking of private property without compensation, yet if he is able to lock it up, is he not taking public propertly without compensation?
Also, you look at ranches for sale in Wy for example, many are listed as thousands of acres, tens of thousands of acres, but there is a smaller percentage that is deeded land, the rest is state and federal leases, yet they are getting compensated as if it is all deeded.
 
Pretty common for land to bring a premium price here, if it is bordering a state park(no hunting). Everyone thinks they can lure a big deer across the property line. And likely put a stand right on the property line.

Is he locking people out? Absolutely.
Would you do it if you owned the land he does, I got money you would if you could.
The Gov created the problem there gonna have to fix it and it won't be cheap.
 
They need to charge property taxes on all this public land that is locked up by these ranch owners, if they don't allow access.
Why they don't own it.
Should people who rent houses or land pay property taxs?
Farmers who lease ground to farm?
Business's?
People wanna complain then get on your politicians its the Gov who created this mess not the ranchers there just using a situation to there advantage just like 99.9 of everybody else would, CHEESE AND RICE!! I dont like anymore than the next person but it is what it is at this point.
 
I have no problem finding public ground or BMA ground to hunt on, do I have to work at it a little more? Yeah sometimes but I'm not gonna let it stop me instead of bitching about some "rich" rancher who has some land locked up because of the Gov.
I'm gonna lace up my boots and go hunting and enjoy myself thats what its suppose to be about anyway.

I think you are missing my point. This land owner is suing for the loss of exclusive access to public land. Some of these ranches are marketed with the "included" public land access.
Of course renters pay property taxes- it is figured into the rent. At least I do with my rental property. When my property taxes went up this spring, I passed that along to the renters.

My question is why is there a gate there in the corner of the two private parcels anyway?
I mean by that that the two private parcels cornering each other should be land locked from each other just like the public parcels are.
 
They need to charge property taxes on all this public land that is locked up by these ranch owners, if they don't allow access.
If the property owner uses public ground to travel from one of their owned parcels to another owned parcel, then they should be paying an exorbitant access fee to use that public ground if they block the public from crossing corners. They shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

Corner crossing....if they do it then the public should be able to do it.
