I shoot a S&W 617 for Steel Challenge and it gets pretty dirty after 300 rounds. OK, I miss some!

I use an electric drill and chamber brush about every 500 round and it keeps the cylinders nice and clean. It's mush easier than a push/pull brush and patch.

I also just switched to Bore Tech C4 for cleaning the cylinder. Just let it soak for 5 minutes, run a mop though the cylinders and they are clean.

interesting as mine clean up good with butchs, patches and a bronze brush. i wonder wat the difference is?

Are you confirming with a bore scope or just clean patches ? How many passes with that brush ?

powers been out allday today. just got restored. i wrote a long drawn out response but couldnt send it. dont know wat happened to it.- i look with teslum bore scope- my hawkeye 90degree tube broke. usually 10 strokes for daily cleaning and more with iosso mabie every 200 rounds, but that is with Osize nylon brush.

also— using N-150- oh yeah - i usually clean every 25 rounds - sometimes every 12 or 13 rounds.

No worries Kim, the topic is polarizing to say the least. A little common sense goes a long ways.
My comp rifle gets cleaned at the end of the day, I don’t need bare metal or early retirement but clean is clean and I can go four cycles on that.

yeah- at one point i spent alot more time cleaning but then i asked myself- why am i doing this when many of the big guys spend much less time on it and shoot much better than me? i started following their lead and it has worked for me. it seems keeping them clean makes the daily cleaning much easier. that post by FrankG about the test barrel that lasted 26000 rounds and that the standard test barrel round count is 10000 rounds opened my eyes some to. i think my current and future barrels will last alot longer. LOL

A sensible cleaning regime is normally a good one.no need to go mad with a cleaning rod brushes,drills or whatever one decides to shove down the bore i think more damage is done by cleaning than shooting.a borescope does help.a quality bore guide,solvent,proper fitting patches and brushes.just don't let fouling build up.some match grade barrels clean better than others as we no,but most are good I have found.i had a SSG Police in .243 many moons ago,yes a factory rifle and it was almost impossible to keep clean.patches would come out green for ever and a day,you could have spent a lifetime trying to get it clean.i didn't have a borescope then but it must have been really rough but it shot exceptionally well,thats another story.ive used butche's for years,KG products and I've found bore tech eliminator not to bad.cleaning properly and oftern works for me.
