Conceal Carry Opinions for a "Small woman"

Someone (or two) mentioned the recoil factor with a small 9mm. I tried the light an easy carry road with a SIG P938 and found out quickly that it was painful to shoot a box of practice bullets and therefore became a gun I cannot shoot well. I'm 6'2" and 225 lbs.

So, I bought a SIG P364XL. An extra mag gives me 25 rounds and it is a pleasure to shoot and to carry. I bought a SIG Romeo 0 Reflex sight and mounted it on a 22lr to try out. I love it and it enhances my capability, but requires training to use. I will be buying one for the SIG.

Each person has different expectations and needs for carrying a pistol. I had to change habits and clothing to be able to carry daily. If you want to carry as a way of life, buy a really good holster and it will make carrying a larger gun just as comfortable as a small pocket gun. My all time favorite is a horse hide holster patterned after the original Crossbreed design.

Never thought about having a good holster that would enable me to carry a somewhat bigger gun more easily; thanks for that advice. I'm going to get a Glock43, know anything about those? My uncle is a police officer and he carries one regularly and likes it. More so, a lot of folks seem to like the Glock43. I've heard good things about the P365. I will be sure to get a good holster and check in out a horse hide type like yours. Thank you.

If you have to shoot someone, shoot them below the belt buckle with what you got. .22 lr bullet will not break the pelvis, but bounce around it cut the nerves. They'll drop like a sack of potato's. Hope you practice with it. And have ammo that will work the action.

I went with i post night sight on my latest 9mm, I really like shooting it, very accurate. Realized with age and readers the 3 dot slowed me up and that trouble would more likely be after dark. Sights would not matter during an armed car jacking, a greater risk in many cities today.

I've used my P365xl to eliminate Armadillos. A good thing about the 365xl is it comes ready for red dot mounting. AND it comes with great night sights. Not so with the Glock.

Ankle holster
Ankle holsters are not good for a woman to carry in! she would have to bend over to get to it. putting her at a disadvantage in having to bend over. Might not be able to fight her way back up. Have always taught a fanny pack worn in front for a woman. or in a coat pocket.

I didn’t read all the replies so forgive me if my thoughts are a repeat…
If you have a certain holster you like for the gun you carry now make sure whatever holster you like is available for your new one. I cary a kahr cw 45 or cw9, kahr has a pretty significant lineup, as do others, that let you chose the frame size and the cartridge. I really wanted smaller frame 9mm that kahr sold, until I shot it, the cw was a good compromise for me, in both 45 and 9. You can go to an even smaller sized pistol in a 380 but the real small 380s are horrible to shoot, ruger makes a 380 in the same frame size as their 9mm, kahr makes some 380s that are slightly larger frames than the ultra small ones as well, basically a given cartridge will be easier to shoot in a slightly larger gun, try some and find your happy medium
