Re: Please note the " registration " of grandfathered items

Just in case you hadn't noticed. Now, how do you " register " 200 + million guns ? When .001 % commit the crime, do the other 99.999% pay the price ? Prosecute the bad guys, arm the good guys.
If President Obama can feel safe with armed guards at his daughters schools, we should be able to feel safe with our children and grandchildren also.
They are just as precious....

I saw this posted on the National Match forum just now. I believe it deserves wider exposure.

I am putting this here just in case someone wants to copy it and use it. I have written my Reps and thought I'd put it out here if for nothing else maybe to give someone a Idea of what they would want to say. I'm not going to post about this anymore after this. Simply because I feel I'm only Preaching to the choir doing so. No offence intended. We need to do something instead of just complaining and arguing among ourselves!!

Dear Congressman/woman/person/Senator _________,

The past few weeks have been difficult for our great nation. In the wake of the mass murder/suicide that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, many proposals have come forward on how to prevent similar events from happening again. Some of the ideas have merit, such as improving our mental health system so that those with deep issues may have access to the treatment they disparately need. Improving our schools’ physical security is another worthy goal of the legislative process and must be examined as well. Students and Staff deserve to have someone within their ranks tasked with defending against the unthinkable acts those with evil intent seek to engage in.

The further eroding of lawful gun owner’s rights is not the solution to our nation’s problems. I am counting on you to honor your oath to the Constitution and to defend our rights. The early proposals being touted have run the spectrum from infringement to outright trampling of the people’s rights. We have some 20,000 + laws on the books now that are designed as forms of gun control measures. Their only success has been in restricting honest persons’ access to the tools they may need to save their lives.

I am asking for your support in stopping any legislative action that seeks to limit, impede, tax, or further inconvenience law abiding citizens from exercising their inalienable right to self defense. Gun owners have long memories as to who supports their rights, and of those that ignore their obligations to support liberty. Your actions will directly effect how we vote in the coming elections.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration

If you are copying this to send to the guvmint, please correct the spelling of desperate. The correct spelling is "desperately".
And "effect" should be changed to "affect".

facts for thought...

Right after graduating high school, I remember going back to the school one day to get some papers from the office. I was surprised to see a county sherriff's officer walking the hall. After the recent events that happened, I wondered if there was a deputy at that school. I guess I had just assumed all schools started doing the same thing. this got me to thinking. what would it cost. I just looked up some data. there are 98,817 public schools according to the U.S. dept of education (most recent data for 2009-2010 school years). that number doesn't include post-secondary schools. So if we hired 2 police officers per school, for every public school in the united states, and pay them $50,000/year, that's $9,881,700,000 a year. that's 197,634 folks off of un-employment, and it keeps the kids safer than ever hopefully. I wonder if they would even consider it, it's would be such a small fraction of new revenue created from the recent "fiscal deal". maybe they could just cut back some of the crazy amount of foreign aid we give away each year, then we wouldn't even have to worry about it going to a better cause....maybe we could even use the recent raise $$$$ congress just got......sorry to rant

Re: facts for thought...

Even less $ if teachers are allowed to carry & given courses. Same with principals Etc.

Re: facts for thought...

The Harrolds school in Texas approved for teaches to carry. Texas law bans guns in school unless approved by school.
Other states like OK MO MN SD & OR are looking in to it. The debate now is who better to carry; Teachers, police os security guards?
or (One Marine) in each school. Problem solved. Although it wouldn't happen, it sounds good.

Re: facts for thought...

I am all for the teachers carrying. If you can not trust them with a firearm you SHOULD NOT trust them with children.

Re: facts for thought...

As a nation we spend 100 billion on the "war" on drugs.
25% of that wasted money would pay for it.

Re: facts for thought...

I didn't even think of posting a couple of marines there. heck, they already post the recruiters there. they are fully trained in weapons, fighting, etc. that would save a bunch of $$$ in training teachers. who would dare mess with a school if they knew a couple of soldiers were waiting inside???? hell ya!! they get my vote!! that would probably also get rid of the gang issues as well.

Re: facts for thought...

The very exclusive private school, in Bethesda, Md., where Al Gore's, Joe Biden's, David Gregory's and Obama's children attend class, has 11 armed guards on duty every day during school hours. These are not the US Secret Service detail assigned to the president's children but, private armed guards to protect the students of that school. I guess LaPierre's suggestion to place armed guards in all schools is OK for the "Big Wheels"kids but not OK for us regular folks.

Re: facts for thought...

yeah, they should go to school with everyone else w/o protection. They will argue that all day! My boy is just in pre-school. I don't think they knew what to say when I told the head of the pre-school and the teachers in the class that I wanted them to carry a gun, or someone in the school to get training and carry one. they gave me a shocked look. I told them they should hang a big shotgun right on the wall in the front office, just above the cabinets. I told them that would deter anything with a brain, and if it didn't then it's there to use! not sure it was well received, she told me it was against the law, and they couldn't do it right now. hopefully that will change. the Gov of Va has already brought up that maybe that law should be changed.

REALLY???? have you seen some of the things teachers have done to our children? I am 100% in agreement that they should carry so they can protect our children but we need a better screening system for who is to be a pistol packing teacher! Some of the ones I have dealt with and I come from a very small farming community that school isn't as big as most schools boiler rooms and they have some teachers there that would have to give their firearm to one of the students if it were needed because there is no way they could use it!!! Liberalism runs rampant in the school systems!

Bozo699 yes I know about those teachers. They should not be teachers. ok I will change it if they canot be trusted with guns or kids they should not be teachers.
