Combined Connecticut and Gun Issues Thread

The media and others are already reacting predictably, given their proclivity to blame things, not people. Sad. Irrational. Dangerous.

Here's an interesting fact: Aside from the murderer, there were dozens of heavily armed people at the school, surrounded by kids, parents, and teachers. Not one of these other heavily armed people shot at a child or anybody. Of course I'm talking about the police. Any of whom could have added to the horror by opening fire on innocent people, but didn't. Why? Because guns aren't the problem. Evil doers are the problem. Evil people are, and will always be, the problem.

Don't let the biased media and the liberal hysteria paint you as evil.

If society decided that too many men raped women, and so decreed that all men would be castrated ("if it saves just one victim"), would you go along with that? Fight the good fight.

Had the murderer been aware that teachers are usually armed, he most likely wouldn't have even tried to do what he did. Had the teachers been armed, he would have been stopped LONG before he did stop. Preventing teachers from defending themselves and their classes is LUNACY. They already have the trust of parents, each and every school-day.

It's like watching commercial pilots go through the TSA security screening. I observed TSA debating whether the co-pilot of a UAL flight from Frankfurt to San Francisco should be allowed to carry her nail file on board. This (female) co-pilot would at some point have control of the plane, and could simply steer it into the ground. But TSA was concerned about her nail file.

Lunacy. Fight the lunatics. Stand up for yourselves.

"The strikes by the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which have continued in Pakistan’s tribal areas since 2004 have intensified during the Obama era. In one of the major drone attacks more than 40 civilians and policemen were killed on March 18, 2011 in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan. In the past few months, these unmanned aircraft killed more than 100 people in North Waziristan.

As regards civilian casualties, on August 11, 2011 a report of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism said, “The Guardian published some of the pictures, we have obtained…as many as 168 children have been killed in drone strikes in Pakistan during the past seven years.” While rejecting the CIA’s false claim, the report disclosed, “It is a bleak view: more people killed than previously thought.”"

Real evil.

The moral compass of this world is terrible...

May the good Lord be with those in Conneticut. Problem is more and more people want nothing to do with him and then wonder why we are in such a mess...

It is our duty to send are condolence's and pray for the family's in such a time of madmen running around shooting the innocent's. In Israel each teacher carry's an UZI to protect the student's from what we have witnessed through the new's channel's causing mass histeria.

I think that besides being vigilant about our rights, we also need to be vigilant in our dealings and observations related to firearms. Who IS that person who wants to buy a gun from me and doesn't sound legit? Who IS that person acting strangely at the gun range?

These people are usually hyped up on some kind of "elicit drugs" which sets off their evil side that resides there...be it a gun or a knife...just ad drugs for the evil to come out..!!!

+1, President big ears, made a statement that something will be done to stop this from happening again, no matter the political stance. Sounds like a gun ban.

Violence permeates our "modern" culture because of video games and movies. The souls of a whole generation, now becoming young adults, have been poisoned. Society is responsible for these and other similar tragedies. The gun is but the period that ends the sentence.

We need to bring god back in our classrooms in order to bring back good morals that our younger generation lost track of.

God bless those family's in Connecticut

Molon Labe

It was leonidas' reply to xerses loosely translated to "come and get them". Xerses offerred to spare the "300" if he would surrender during the invasion of greece.

My family's prayers are with those victims. my guns are secured, and my 16 year old daughter is the Maryland State Champion in womens sport pistol. She took a gold with her Pardini .22, and a bronze in Air. We are not ashamed to be gun owners. I am sure no one else in the forum is either..but stand by for some rougher times ahead i think.
Holiday Cheers,
and tears for Connecticut victims..

I'm at an absolute loss to describe my feelings for the victims and their families. I'm an old man and have heard of many bad things in my lifetime, but this is perhaps the worst. I do think now is a time for prayers and grieving. We need to extend all the prayers and help that we possibly can. We all know that guns are not at the core of these types of tragedies. Let's fight that battle a little later. Lord help those families and although while on this earth, we cannot know your plan, I believe with all my heart that you have a master plan.

This is said perfectly. This generation has been raised with violent video games. If you have ever watched a younger child play one of these violent games you will understand. They get so mentally and emotionally involved it is scary. We can look for reasons why but there are billions of people and millions of unstable individuals capable of performing an act of violence at any time. It is a very sad day in america. Thoughts and prayers go out to the everyone involved.

What does molon labe mean?

The Ancient Greek phrase μολὼν λαβέ (molṑn labé; reconstructed Ancient Greek pronunciation [mo'lɔːn la'be]; Modern Greek pronunciation [moˈlon laˈve]) means "Come and take them". It is a classical expression of defiance reportedly spoken by King Leonidas I in response to the Persian army's demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae. It is an exemplary use of a laconic phrase.
