Classifieds and including a price

I know there is no written rule about including a price for items being sold in the classifieds . 99 % of us just the manners our parents taught us and the common courtesy we have learned through our growing up when putting items up for sale and include a price. BUT , there is the 1 % that for what ever reason don't or won't.
Do you'll think there should be such a rule ??
Maybe after this the subjects of "what is it worth" posts, and the to lazy to put a WTB,WTS,WTT in the title ??

Larry, it's not in the rules but it is listed in the suggestion field. I do agree it needs to become a rule! Generally speaking if you're afraid to advertise a price..... you're probably asking way too much.

It would be nice if it was a rule, but I don't think it really needs to be a rule, just like it would be nice if it was a rule that you had to be a site contributor to use the classifieds......... To me it is far more important that a member contribute if he/she is making money from the site, than forcing someone to post a price. They are both based on common courtesy.

IF -- I was a guy who didn't list a price, it would probably be because I wanted to test the water on what kind of interest my item might draw, thereby giving me an idea on how much I might be able to charge.

Kind of cheesy if ya ask me, and irritating to potential buyers. By the way, I'm not known for making a lot of money on stuff that I sell. jd

OBO gets me (a lot of that lately)....If it's not selling drop your price till it does...This isn't an auction site

I say take advantage of the 'what's it worth' postings and simply make a low ball offer. I mean they are asking you to make an offer in essence. So make an offer. They'll come back with a "I couldn't sell it for less than xxxxx" and you will then know the asking price.

Until the new look was implemented, we had to list an asking price, and auctions were not allowed.

FORUM Boss: Our Rules have not changed. A list of the rules just doesn't appear in the right column as it did before.

Personally, I think if an individual doesn't list a price, there's something fishing going on and I pass on whatever he or she is selling. Scams appears even up here and I'm not going to become a victim of anything....most of all STUPIDITY!

I like the already mentioned idea that you need to be a site contributor to list a ad. Sometimes people just forget to list a price and then feel silly when they get asked for the price, others are playing games. If you want to know what something is worth there are plenty of forums covering any subject where people are more than willing to give you their opinion. If your new, it may take a bit to get familiar with the site and how things work. I have no problem being patient and helping new people figure it out, a couple of guys did the same for me when I found the site and it was appreciated.

Have you ever noticed that OBO just means "the least I'm willing to accept".....If the best offer is less than the listed price the majority of the time it is not accepted. What's the point of saying you'll take the best offer (which means to me the highest price anyone has offered) if you won't accept it?

Or how about whoever posts the ad just states the lowest price they will accept? There's no point of saying "OBO" if you're not actually going to take the best offer......

A question for those that think that a poster should have to be a "site contributor" before they can post in the classifieds here.....

Do you also challenge those that ask for payment via PayPal "gift", thereby not "contributing" there?

(Not directed at anybody in particular, just a general question, cause I know that others think it, though haven't posted it).

PayPal gets paid either way -- by the seller or by the purchaser.

I contribute to this site whether I am the seller OR the purchaser. AccurateShooter.com provides a lot of value (not just in the classifieds), and it's worthy of the support that the ~5% of contributing users provide to the 95% of cheapskates.

A for sale ad with no price is not an ad, it just someone saying they have something, post a price or boot it off. It's simple, yes some forget and that's fine, but once brought to their attn., they need to post a price.

Really?

From the PayPal website:

"When you send money online to friends or family in the US from your bank account or balance, it's free for you and the recipient. When you buy a service or product, we charge the seller our normal low rate of 2.9% + $.30."

Yet a whole bunch of people feel that it is fair, or somehow within their rights, to send (or ask for) funds for goods and intentionally miscategorize it as a "gift" to avoid paying the commission.

And you probably think that "free checking" at your bank is free, too, huh? PayPal makes money even on the "free" transactions by living on the float in your account.

Explain why you carry a balance?

Because I don't make any more interest on my balance in my CU "free" checking acct than I do in my PayPal acct, and I don't keep large balances in either type -- there are better places for that. ;)

At the end of the day, we all play by the site owners's rules, and they're OK with freeloading, even in the classifieds. But it's nice of them to publicly thank those of us who support them directly. On every sale and every purchase that I make on this site I donate at least 5%. There are members with hundreds of transactions who are still not site donors. I don't know how they look themselves in the mirror, but it's within the rules.

"Whats going to happen when I list something for sale to ''site contributors only'' ?"

How do you know who is and who isn't a contributor? I've been hanging around here since early 2005. My donations total in the hundreds of dollars. Ain't diddle squat reflecting that on here. Gotten to the point I don't really care.
