Classic car guys / hot rods

Not a classic car, but close enough, I think. My '70 Triumph Bonneville. Built this after getting out of dragracing. Started out as a basketcase. A ten year love/hate relationship. Plenty of aftermarket repro parts available - you just have to hope that they fit! >:(

I tell people that when working on vintage British iron you have to be part mechanic and part old world gunsmith....

Very nice, especially the paint color. Saw a super-rare '70 T120RT a few weeks back for something like 4 grand, but I lolly-gagged and was too late. Those were the 200 homologation specials built by US Triumph for AMA flat track racing; basically 650 Bonnevilles with 750 Routt kits. Incredibly, the new head of BSA-Triumph then fired project manager Rod Coates for that (successful) move. I bought Nortons back then; wish I still had the '72 Combat Commando with Quaife 5-speed and a Trident oil cooler.

My current ride...

More details please!

Father-son-grandfather project that started as a bracket racer...

We got it fast enough that the local track wouldn't let me on without a full cage and I lost interest in racing it shortly after. Since then the engine has been detuned. My dad and I cut out the rust, welded in new metal and did the rough body work. My grandpa did the final body work, prep and paint at age 80! It's got a '69 Hurst scoop with about 1.5" of clearance added to it to clear the air cleaner.

It's an Olds 470" engine based on a 455 with ported Edelbrocks, Victor intake, Dale Cubic 1000 cfm carb, Kooks 2" headers, small Comp solid roller, etc. It dyno'd at 626 hp and 616 tq on 93 octane pump-gas. BTR Performance was instrumental in this build.

TH350 Trans with a GM 12-bolt and 3.90 gears. It's worthless with street tires, but very fun.

Thank you montana native 8)

The Shelby GT needs no introduction. The GT3, after 3 runs on the dyno averaged 638 WHP, 655 pounds feet of torque. Crank HP was 797. All from a 218 CI engine 8)
The 3 piece wheels were custom made by HRE.

Modern day hot rods ;)

I have a 1967 mustang coupe with a 306hp Shelby 289 motor, 4 speed, 9inch rear end with 3:89 gears , traction lock. This little coupe screams. Interior is all original and the car came from texas. Totally rust free. The exterior is bright red from the ford 1998 truck red.It is a total sleeper with hooker headers followed by a custom dual exhaust with 50 series mufflers. This car will paste you to the front seats during a speed run. Car has only 36,000 original miles.

Agree. I have to run on the brink of detonation, with a loud solid roller with a bunch of overlap, poor idle quality with putrid smelling exhaust, to make the power these new engines do on 91 octane with great driveability. Its BS! ;D

Turns head doesn't it.

I love all these old cars and had fun with mine but when I first felt what power comes from a 780 HP diesel engine is somthing I'm addicted to ...just somthing about hearing a 68mm turbo spooling to 70 pounds and the sound of twin CP3 dueling dragons injection pumps, ..... 8) it's just too cool.

This was my first car...been in storage for 30 years now, and will get a resto when I can find the cash! 1967 Firebird OHC6 Sprint, 4bbl, 4 speed, custom interior, parchment white with fold rear seat and console.

So I decided to start on my engine. Met a guy yesterday who successfully stroked a 68 OHC6 250 using a Chebby 292 crank. 300 HP on tap now. I plan to take a ride in it, and in a restored 230 CI OHC 4bbl, stock. Then I will decide what I want to do with this. It is not a numbers matching engine so I can play, if I have a mind to....
Here is me, taking off peripherals, getting ready for tear down. 68 OHC6 Sprint 4BBL Pontiac.IMG_20200628_161039796.jpg

I've had a few over the years, nothing but a few parts in the garage now. The first was a '66 Mustang, 289 mit der 3 speed transmission. Then a '67 Fairlane with a 390 and auto trans. After that was a '69 Fairlane Cobra with a 428 CJ Ram Air with a 4 speed. This was followed up by a '68 Chevelle SS396 with a 4 speed. Then a '69 Corvette with a 427 and a 4 speed. Then came a '73 Camaro RS with a 350 and a 4 speed. After that came several years of basic transportation (kids will do that). When the kidlings got a little older I picked up an /83 Fox body Mustang with a 5.0 4 bbl and a 5 speed (really quick and handled great). There were and are several 4 wheel drive pick ups and SUVs scattered in amongst the list also. The absolute baddest of all those listed was the '69 Fairlane Cobra, the '69 427 Vette was nothing much compared to this car. I used to street race it quite a bit and only got beat once (it was a built up 340 Plymouth Duster with slicks and a line lock). The parts patiently taking up space in my garage are a 460 Ford truck block, 2 sets of open chambered big valve heads and an Eagle steel stroker crank (500+ inch). I need rods, piston, intake, cam and accessories plus something to put it in.

My old 68 Rambler American...cheapest car they made...no charge for radio delete, hahaha. Less than 25000 original miles and original paint. Now a Dart block SBC @421 ci with a 990cfm 4150 Holley in front of a Coan TH350 with 5500 stall converter, Ford 9 inch, spool...blah, blah.

Runs 9.75@ 137 really fat. She puts a smile on my face when she starts:D

Some verrrry nice rides here:eek::cool:

Last classic I had was before I got married nearly 50 years ago.
I had been thinking about the cars I let go back then. I really admire the guys/gals that hang onto them.
So, I started looking 10 years or so ago but my budget was always a little short and the cars I found were still "Old".
Finally found this 10 miles from home. Can't take credit for much but a few mechanical things that it really didn't need.
But I'm 20 again when I drive it.

Nice car!
Is there a cage in the car or just a roll bar? The tracks I've gone to will kick you out if you run under 10 seconds with only a bar.

Had a 66 Nova SS 4 spd. Posi trac rear what a holy terror to drive on wet roads. Non numbers matching car. The motor was out of a 69 camaro 350 4bbl. The second summer I owned it the State Police and I became first name friends. Some of the neighbors and I were not friends. But the car and all the pictures and the first wife left all about the same time.:( That was good riddance to one of those three!!:D Sure miss that car and pictures.
